Lights Up the Night
I use this light to ride rocky desert trails and have no problems picking out my path. I don't ride long, maybe an hour to an hour and a half but the battery charge indicator has barely come off of the highest charge marker. The only improvement I would suggest is to the mechanism for attaching the battery to the bike. It works very well but every time I put the battery on the bike or remove it to charge I have to thread the velcro straps rather than just slapping the battery into a cage or a quick connect mounting bracket.
Battery Questionable
Noticed the battery status light didn't illuminate while charging. This was in early winter when I halted my early morning rides (4 am). When I started back this spring, I plugged the battery back into the charger and noticed the status light still wasn't illuminated. I left on charger for a day then tried the light and nothing. Battery totally dead. Went to Niterider's web site and saw where battery is only warranted for 180 days. Obviously, they know the battery is an issue or else they would warrant for a longer period. Thankfully, I purchased at REI so I know they will stand behind the product regardless of the manufacturer's warranty. I also have a Niterider 250 and 650 that work great. With night riding in Atlanta, it pays to have a back up plan. Very expensive light for questionable battery life. I would recommend folks purchase two of the 650 lights for less money, lighter weight and redundancy.
GOOD LIGHT
THIS IS A BRIGHT LIGHT! on high cars will come to a STOP because they can't see. on low it last for the 1.5 hour commute I do (and cars will flash there light at you). Low is good for dark paved roads. but if there are potholes you will need the med (1 hour) or high (35 min). the cold dose seam to cut the battery life down (the times are from my rides at 29-38F)
Bad battery
Used about 10-15 times, and battery no longer works at all. Light just turns red on battery pack when plugged in. Didn't do anything reckless to the battery, charger, or LED. After reading the reviews and talking to people, these systems are NOT worth their price due to the battery. Otherwise, when it worked it worked great.
Bright Light / Dim Reliability
For a high-end light system this product performs well, but adapter and battery do not hold up to long-term use. The adapter cable is very thin and susceptible to shorting out in the short term. The battery, while designed well to fit under the stem, does not keep its charge for longer rides.
