Poor Documentation
Like many of you, I didn't think this would fit my presta valve. Stan's webpage and YouTube video does nothing to clarify but I emailed their technical support. It turns out that the black piece has two sets of threads on it. First set is for Schrader. But if you push harder, further down in the piece there is a second set that matches presta valve. I think that is non-obvious (and based on other reviews I'm not alone on this) and I fault Stan's for their poor documentation
Does NOT work with Mavic valve
Does not work with the valve provided with the Mavic Kysrium tubeless wheel purchased in June 2020. The problem is that the Mavic valve body does not have threads all the way to the end, so there is nothing for the fitting at the end of the injector tubing to thread onto. I suspect all Mavic valves may be this way, and could be the reason for so many negative reviews. Also the fitting at the end of the tube is plastic, not metal as suggested by the picture, but will probably work with a 'regular' presta valve that has threads all the way to the end of the valve body.
Doesn't work for Presta valves
Bought the injector along with some Stan's universal presta valves with removable cores yesterday at REI. The two items were next to each other on the shelf, and the Injector packaging says its for "valves with removable cores". Yet the plastic coupler does not thread onto the presta valve. It has two sets of threads, and the wider set does fit a schrader valve, but the inner set is molded slightly to small to fit on their own presta valve. A major fail, as it renders the tool useless if your running presta valves -even ones built by Stans.
Doesn't fit standard presta valves
Like many other reviewers, I trusted the box which was labeled that this fits both Scrader and Presta valves. The item I just bought from REI has a plastic coupler at the end of the flex tubing (not brass) and in no way was able to screw onto the exterior threads of my presta valves as the threading was completely the wrong diameter. I'd expect far better from a specialty MTB accessory companya
do not buy
Apparently the injector used to have a brass connector at the end that would screw into the valve. Now it is plastic and is supposed to slide over the valve making so that when you attach the connector to the wheel’s valve, sealant leaks everywhere making a huge mess. More sealant spills than actually makes it into the wheel.
nipple was different than in picture
Looking at the picture it looks like it has a metal adapter. probably would have worked better if it was. Mine was plastic and did not thread itself properly to the valve stem. it felt like it was 1mm too large.(my applications was for Presta valve) I ended up leaking sealant all over. I will probably make my own adapter when I got some time.
Don't Waste Your Money
I've tried using this a ton of times and it just makes a mess. When you place the nozzle over the valve stem, sealant leaks all over the place. Additionally, if you try to use this as a syringe, to extract sealant from a bigger bottle, it never can get the last little bit. Generally now, I just refill and use an old 2 oz bottle of STANS to insert into my valve stem and add sealant that way.
This is not exactly the product I received
This is not exactly the product I received. I could not be more disappointed with this. First, it came with a cheap plastic tip instead of the metal shown in the picture. Second, it will not screw securely onto a standard presta valve and shoots sealant everywhere. Total waste of money.
Not Compatible with Race Sealant
The injector I received is different than pictured. Mine states very clearly "Not Compatible with Race Sealant." Which is a bummer since that is what I'm using. Mine also has a plastic valve instead of a metal one.
Works great but not totally necessary
I bought this stans injector after installing stans sealant into my road bike tires successfully. I bought this injector to actually remove sealant from my tires in a effort to control the mess before changing to new tires. Using the stans 2 oz. bottles to fill the tubes and saving the bottle and refilling the bottle both bulk stans sealant is also works well.
