Consider twice
The pulley is easy to set up but with it's sharp teeth it tore about 3 " of the sheathing off a rope so maybe not the best way to assend a rope

Don't leave the ground without it

A pulley is essential for alpine and trad climbing, and glacier travel. This is one of the most versatile. It is compact and lightweight. It's pricey, but well worth the cost. I've used it for crevasse rescue, where it works well on wet and icy ropes. It is conceivable that severe icing conditions could interfere with the cam, but I've not encountered that problem, and I've had the pulley packed with snow from the rope. No issues. The design of the pulley frame would tend a prusik, in the unlikely event that were to become necessary. I've frequently used it as an ascender. It is also useful for self belay on top rope, in conjunction with a backup device such as a Petzl Microcender; Petzl have instructions on their web site describing how to rig the Micro Traxion for self belay. I never leave the ground without a Micro Traxion and a Tibloc on my harness.

Handy Tool!

We purchased these as tools for work as opposed to recreational use. These pulley are very efficient and are compact and easy to pack. We used them to haul tool, parts, and other loads to the top of structures that we build. Mainly used when equipment is not available to help us left these loads. Granted, these loads may be between 40 lbs and 400 lbs. Some not being necessarily heavy, but it's not fun to tote them up if you're having to clip in for safety as you're climbing up! Overall, a little pricey. But they work well and last a long time!

I use for TR solo

I use this for top rope solo. It works great. It does not damage the rope because you don’t really fall any distance. It captures your “fall” immediately. It follows you as you climb pretty smoothly as long as you have some weight on the rope. Easy to use.

light and effective

This is a great piece of gear. Very light, rope runs very smooth, and bites quick. Probably worth considering the affect of the teeth on the rope sheath. I use it as a backup device to my Camp Lift ascender or Grigri while TR soloing. Also great to install between you and your partner if simul climbing.

Excellent Versatile Device

The Petzl Micro Traction is an awesome tool for many different applications. You can use it for crevasse rescue, ascending a rope, for mechanical advantage, and much more. It is easy to use and manage. This is a piece of gear that is always with me when climbing. A must have for any adventurous climber. Read the manufacturer's instruction when learning about this device. This pairs well with Petzl carabiners.

Buy it!

Great progress capture device! I use it in an ascending system, hauling system, rescue set-up, or as just a pulley. Very smooth, very light weight. You won't be disappointed.

Fetch a bucket of water and it's OK to fall down.

It works. What else can I say. It has kept the goods from falling. Saved Jack from breaking his crown. I plan to get a lot of use out of this little buddy.

TRS Device

Excellent for TRS. I've been using the Micro Traxion with a Petzle Ascension for about 4-5 days and I love the setup. It feeds smoothly and has not damaged the rope (yet). That being said, I would never want to whip on this thing. I also like that I can lock the device open and rappell, makes for an easy day of running laps.
