Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Light and comfortable
These are comfortable and fit very well - nice straight leg and room for an "athletic" calf and thigh. The legs can be ruched on the side to just below the knee and tied to stay in a sort of capri length. They stay up pretty well, but it can be weird to have the ties swinging along the side of the leg while walking. The fabric is also very thin and there are no pockets on the butt, which means that you're likely to have panty lines. I'm not comfortable putting a lot in the pockets because the pants are so lightweight. They're great for day hikes or travel; don't wrinkle and have the perfect amount of stretchiness.
Great pants for work, travel, hiking
I'm a landscape architect who travels a lot and I was looking for pants that could work on the plane, with clients, and in the field. These fit the bill, and I wear them for hiking and camping too. They are so comfy and stretchy but look professional too. My local REI did not have the slate color; if they were available in a khaki or blue I would get another pair. The black can be hot in the sun. I am 5'-5" and 120 lbs and the size 2 fits pretty well. A little loose in the waist at times but the drawstring helps; I cinch them slightly at the cuffs to fit with flat shoes; full length is ok with taller shoes/hiking boots. They don't look good as capris as they flare out strangely at the cuffs. I think they would be too lightweight in the winter (maybe ok with long underwear) but they are the perfect summer outdoor pant. Truly quick-dry and wrinkles disappear within minutes of taking them out of the suitcase. Love these pants!
So cute!
I bought these in black for an upcoming trip to Europe. My mom made me try them on and I'm glad she did-- they look aweful on the hanger, but really cute on! The adjustable length is great and looks even better if the hem is flipped up & the strings are tied into bows on the capri length. I'm only 5'2" and usually wear pant size 6-8; on these the 6 fits nicely. The waistband doesn't gap in the back and the leg is neither too narrow nor too wide. I'm very excited to have found comfortable, convertible pants that can be dressed up or down so easily!
Great pant!
It's so nice to find a pant like this that has a reasonable waist level. The pockets are great and the little bit of stretch is divine. It's perfect for travel, but the black ones can even dress up for a night out on the town.
My favorite pants
I actually found my first pair of these at the store. After trying on 10 - 12 different kinds of pants, these slipped on and I was sold. I wear these for everything. They look great at work (could never even tell they were hiking pants)then off to play I go. I have a very athletic build so small hips and straight up from there. Most pants fit too slug in the waist if they fit my bum and thighs. Ended up ordering a backup pair! It would be great to have a couple of flat pockets on the backside but still overall awsome pants.
Great pants, but not sure how durable
I wear these pants hiking in warmer weather (probably not good for cold weather as they're quite lightweight and thin), walking around town, and even to my office for work! They're very comfortable and have a nice fit. I'm 5'9 165 and got the size 8. They are the perfect length for flat shoes or hiking boots, depending on the setting in which you're wearing them. They are also quick drying. Being able to convert them to capris is nice when it's hot, but they don't look as good on me that way, so I just roll them up. My only complaint is that after a few washings, they're starting to get some little fuzzies -- I don't know how durable they will be in the long run. Otherwise, great pants!
Great pants!
Yeah!! REI realizes that not all women want pants that sit waaaay below the waist. This one is reasonable, though could even be a bit higher. I really like the hidden security pocket. The adjustable ties at the waist take some getting used to and that design could be improved. I hope you'll make these in another fabric. I'd buy 'em!!
Great for non-hippy people!
Bought these pants for trekking Annapurna in Nepal in May. After trying many pairs of pants on, I selected these as they were pretty much the only pants made for people with hips that are only slightly bigger than their waists. I love the fit; the hips are not much wider than the waist which is a plus for straighter shaped ladies. At 5'8", the hem was long enough to cover the laces of my hiking boots, preventing the laces from catching on on another and tripping me. The cut is stylish - I wore these on town outing several days. They are super comfortable, lightweight, breezy in hot temperatures, and quick to dry. I have since used them on backpacking trips and am so glad that I have them. I would definitely buy these again! Cons: I've never found the scrunch up to capris cute and have not used this feature. Might not be the best for cold weather, as the material is very lightweight and not wind proof. I wish there were pockets on the back, if for nothing else than to hide panty lines (but who really worries about that when you're staring at the Himalayas, anyways?).
Don't bother
I tried a different pair on at a store -- the same size in another color ended up being 2 waist sizes too big and about 4 inches longer. All -- ALL -- of the seams are coming undone; I'm in Guatemala right now and found a tailor to redo them for a little more than a dollar (which leads me to the unfair price-wage ratio). The pants hold on to odor despite repeated washings and show moisture -- ie: butt sweat -- in the most horrifyingly embarrassing way. They are an interesting change on the typical "convertible pant" model, but the laces do not stay tied, the pants do not keep shape, and nothing drapes the way it should. Unflattering parachute pants is what I ended up with. Apparently there is a competing brand store in Antigua; I'll probably still pop by to find a different pair and trash these. (yep, not even worth the postage for a refund.)
Superior comfort
I flew from US to Germany spending 2 weeks traveling Europe. These were the best purchase I made for the trip. They were extremely comfortable, soft, non chaffing, non wrinkle, quick dry, and easy wash and wear. I purchased both colors and lived in them. The only negative I can say is that the draw strings at the hem tend to untie, just keep checking them. Will purchase these again if I they ever wear out.
