No depth = no storage
I bought this loft for my REI Hobitat 4 tent before a 2 week trip to Utah, as I have gear lofts in my other tents and find them to be extremely helpful. This gearloft on the other hand, is not. It has very little depth to the mesh, which means gear rests ontop of it rather than cradle inside of it. The result is that you get very minimum storage, expect to stash your keys, bottle of bug spray and that is it. Anything more and things start to slide over each other and fall out. You can't just toss things up into this gear loft like you can do so many others. The culprit seems to be the semi-rigid rail that surrounds the mesh. That rim does allow the straps to slide to any point along the exterior, which is nice for securing the loft in place, but it means there is very little flexibility in the mesh. Its also expensive for a gear loft, $30 is not worth it. Bottom line, get a nice flexible gear loft that's just mesh attached to some straps.
It's okay
This gear loft is on the heavy side. It feels like a wired loop. I was expecting to be very light, especially for MSR Hubba Hubba tent. I was a little disappointed with its weight issue, but it's good to have inside the tent. I only use this for car camping, not backpacking.
Nice to have for extra storage and overhead light
Works well in our Elixir 2. The straps that attach the gear loft to the tent are quite long, you'll probably end up cutting off the excess length. Although if you had a piece of wood or plastic to put on top of the gear loft you could probably make a hanging table. hah I've found the stiffer edging of the gear loft doesn't sit straight most of the time. Not a huge deal, but it would be nicer looking if it stayed uniform. The little pocket comes in handy for storing little items like car keys.
Gear loft I guess??
I guess I'm just comparing it to the loft that comes with the rei passage I have which works perfect. This is hard to set up and get adjusted. Once you do get it set up still doesn't hold things in there vary well. If it's round it comes rolling out. I'm sending it back....
So useful it should already be part of the tent.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that there is no reason this isn't already part of the tent design. Before I got the Hubba, I had a Mountain Hardware tent, and the only redeeming quality of that thing was it had a little built-in attic to hold stuff. It's so useful and obvious that I'm annoyed I had to buy it as an add-on.
MSR Mother Huba (Spelling) Nx 3 Person Tent
Works great and fits in the Mother Huba (profanity filters prevented me from spelling the name correctly) 3 Person Tent. Securing it to the four corners stretches this thing out, so don't expect much slack. It's great for hanging socks or shirts to dry (when you don't want deer to lick/steal them). Also, great for keeping a light.
does not fit MSR elixer2
1 star because it does not fit the Elixer 2. I'm sure it fits other tents much better. when i say it doesn't fit the Elixer 2, it fits into the top of the tent, but sags to about the height of my neck without anything in it and it sinched as high as possible.
Holds lots of gear, packs down tiny.
Got this to give myself some additional storage space. Keeps my boots, jackets and rain gear off of the ground with plenty of room left for food and other miscellaneous items. Highly recommended.
Easy Shelf
Looking for a little spot to hang your phone, knife, flashlight and such? This is a decent choice. I found it easy to use and a nice addition to my car camping with a long walk tent.
Needs to be larger
Seems this was a total after thought in design and function. Its really small which makes the weight distribution completely centered, making the attic droop seriously low.
