Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survived 12 days with NO hitspots or blisters When preparing for my son and I to go on a 12-day trek at Philmont, we looked and tried on about 7 pairs of boots at REI. These ones fit the best and the sales person talked about the firmer sole helping the feet to be 'less tired' on rocky terrain. While another pair seemed to hug my feet a bit better, I went with these. During the trek we went from 6,600 ft. to 12,000 ft and many ups and downs in between. From dirt and pine needle paths to rock hopping a ridge at 9,000 ft...these boots were awesome. yes my feet were sore and tired, but NOT ONE hot spot or blister throughout the trek. Love these boots. SO does my son. His worked great also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome so far Went into my local REI store looking for a pair of water proof hiking boots. After trying on a couple different brands, none of which fit quite right, the salesperson suggested the Vasque Talus. From the get go they felt great. Wore them around the store for about 30 minutes and decided to give these a try. After eight day hikes and about 60 miles they fit like a glove. The Vasque Perpetuum last does a great job at locking my foot securely in place minimizing any foot movement, i.e., no blisters. They seem to be pretty durable, hardly any tread wear so far, but a little too early to say for sure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Comfortable but not durable I purchased a pair of these boots from bass pro shop November of last year. Here it is 8 months later and they have huge holes in the sides (where the leather meets the sole) and the tread is gone on the sole. The holes started around 6 months after purchasing. I am a land surveyor so I am hiking through the woods every day. I walk 5-10 miles per day so I need a comfortable as well as durable, waterproof boot. I was extremely happy with the boots when I first got them. The break in time was practically immediate. If you are a light hiker these would be great but if you are a heavy hiker or plan on wearing these every day they will not stand the test of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Boots! I bought these in March of this year for a trip to Alaska. Shortly after purchasing them, I started wearing them to work and now I wear them everyday. This year I have hiked Alaska, Yellowstone, Alta, Moab, Cache National Forest (NE Utah), northern Idaho and NW Montana. I wipe them down when done and head to work the next day. They are great for walking my dog in the neighborhood on rainy nights. Best hiking boots I have owned, and I have owned a lot. Still look great after nine months of abuse. I have a narrow foot and I can wear normal socks with this boot. This is my first pair of Vasque, but I have worn narrow width Red Wing work boots since 1992.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boot I've always had challenges finding a great pair of hiking boots. Size 14... narrow heel/wide forefoot (bunyons)... long toes. While I had found boots which were close, I've never quite found any that were just right. When it was time for a new pair of hiking boots, I tried on many different models. After exhaustive research and after talking the ear off of every REI sales associate I could find, I finally settled on these. After a number of day trips and overnight backpacks, I can say that I am thoroughly happy with them. Excellent traction, a nice roomy toebox, good waterproofing, and all day comfort make for a great day on the trail. And after six months, they still look brand new. And as a bonus, the price is better than many of the other models I tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot This was my first real pair of hiking boots. The staff at REI helped me narrow it to this and the Vasque Breeze 2.0 GTX. The Talus felt sturdier than the Breeze, and other brand boots, which to me made the Talus more like a boot and the others more like a shoe. I must admit the style sold me as well. Prior to breaking in these were already comfortable boots. Once broken in, I used them for a week in Yosemite, doing about 30 miles of day hikes. They had great traction on the rockier parts of trails, and while I didn't go splashing around, my feet were dry on the few creek and stream crossings we encountered. I wouldn't say my feet necessarily feel cool in these boots, but they do not feel hot either. That's when wearing them with some medium cushion REI wool hiking socks. Even on my longest day my feet were still dry and comfortable, and no odor issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best boot I've ever owned Been wearing these boots for over a year now. I have used them in all 4 seasons, including serious winter conditions. I can't say enough about how much I love these boots. Foot stays perfectly dry in wet conditions, breathes well in the summer when its hot. Great support, sturdy, yet EXTREMELY comfortable. Wasn't even really a break in period, used these on day long hikes in the mountains right out of the box, and my feet weren't even sore afterwards. They even look good. I have always struggled to find the right hiking boot, until I bought these. Thinking about buying another pair to have in storage for the day when I finally wear these out, just in case they ever discontinue this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Man I love these shoes. I tried out two Merrells, and they were just awful. There was either no support, or they actually made my knees feel awful. I then went back to Vasque, the brand I've been using for years. So good to be home. I walk about an hour every other day, so I need shoes which are actually made for walking. These fit the bill perfectly. I strayed from brand loyalty because the looks weren't very innovative, but now I have things in perspective, and I'm actually happy with the looks of these boots now! I'm so glad Vasque is reliable.

Hi, I just bought these a couple days ago and I think I'm going to love them. What is the best way to take care of the boots to keep them looking good, extend the life of the leather, keep them water proof, etc? Thanks!

Asked by: Michael Parker
The Nikwax Nubuck and Suede Spray Duo-Pack would be a great choice for taking care of your Talus boots. The cleaning gel will keep the boots clean and the waterproofing will keep water from being absorbed into the fabric while maintaining breathability.
