Work Well if You are Careful

As is the case with much camping gear, success with these waste bags depends largely on the care and skill of the user. My wife and I have used these on multi-day raft trips and while camping in the desert in Utah, and have been satisfied with the results. We do not urinate into the bags. We often also bag our toilet paper separately (a standard wilderness waste disposal practice). If there is toilet paper placed in the bag, it should be packed down before zipping the seal. One bag has proven just fine for two people on a 24 hour overnight with some TP in the bag, and also fine for 4 people on a 24 hour overnight with no toilet paper in the bag.

Did not gel
Meredith

I used these with the Luggable Loo for a car camping trip. I only used them for #1, and they worked well with the Luggable Loo for those few times when I really didn’t want to walk to the campground shower house, particularly late at night. The first time I used the bag, I noticed that some of the liquid did appear to gel, and there was no odor. The second, third, and finally fourth time I used it, though, there was no more gelling action. The packaging doesn’t specify a certain amount of liquid, but I saw that Reliance sells the bio gel separately, and it states that about two tablespoons of powder should gel one gallon. There was definitely less than a gallon of liquid in the bag I used, so they must have only put a sprinkle of the bio gel in the bag. Maybe if you buy the bio gel powder and supplement the baggies, it would work better? Anyway, at the end of the trip, I pulled up the sides of the black bag, tried to let out as much air as I could without spilling the liquid content, tied a knot in the black bag, and then zipped it inside of the silver outer bag. The zipper closure is a bit tricky, but I was able to eventually get it sealed. I disposed of the bag, but I would have felt better if it had gelled. As it was, I feared a spill or leak.

So, Here’s the “Number Two”

Despite combing through reviews here and elsewhere, I could not find anything explicitly stating how solid waste functions in these bags. Liquid waste is thoroughly covered elsewhere — its relatively odorless and easy to use, and I’m happy to say that goes for menstrual liquid waste as well. But feces is not odorless. The bag is plenty roomy, but if you’re precious about smells, you may need to adjust your expectations to reflect reality. Perhaps extra bio gel powder and/or a kitty litter layer may help, but we timed our bag changes for after number twos. That said, this was easy to use for an entire fam, ages 5 and up. Loved the double bag combo.

Responsible waste disposal

Many places I camp request that you pack out all waste. I purchased the double doodie bags to use with a Luggable Loo on a family camping trip. The combination worked well together. We used a new bag each day and sealed the prior day's doodie for later disposal. The bag fit the loo well and the double bag kept the waste contained with no mess. The only issue I had was that the seal on the full bag did not fill me with great confidence. It took me several attempts to make sure the zip lock was truly locked and even then I treated the filled bags with great care to make sure there would be no accidents. Considering the contents of the bag I think the seal system could be improved.

Second bag blowout...

I wanted to love this product for use with my Luggable Loo, but unfortunately I am now traumatized. The first bag worked wonderfully (two days of #1 only for one person). No smell. Easy to place in the Luggable Loo. Closed easily and was convenient to remove and dispose of. The second bag not so much...two uses and the interior black bag split open completely, leaving a horrifying mess behind. Unless you are incredibly careful about making sure everything gets directly into the silver outer bag, I would say use these with caution...so bummed as I bought two packages of these but am now really nervous about using them again!

Easy Peasy

I re-started camping 2 years ago after a long break in between called life and working all the time. I'm a 60 yr old woman and due to middle of the night loo runs I didn't like having to get up , get dressed and walk in the dark to the campgrounds bathroom. So I found my Loo bucket and these guys. What a life saver!! I can use one bag for 2-3 days ( and use the campgrounds toilet in between) . Because of the dual bags cleanup is a breeze. No smell , no mess and super easy to dispose of. I now have a teardrop camper that I pull and these are always with me. Great product!!

These bags worked!

I used this in conjunction with the Luggable Loo. I only peed in it, and it held about 24 hours of liquid! The outer bag goes in the Loo, and the inner bag, with the gel already inside, wraps around the lip of the Loo, just like a trash bag would in a trash can. When our overnight trip ended, I removed the inner bag from the lip of the Loo, rolled it down until it was below the level of the ziplock outer bag closure. The sealed bag went into our bag of trash, and into the camp dumpster.

Poo in a bag

Utilized this on a car camping Moab MTB trip. Abiding by the rules in place for primitive camping. What can I say you place the bag into a 5 gallon bucket drape it over like you would with a garbage bag for a garbage can. Sit and do your business. For one person one bag good for two rounds of #2. Seals up as stated and has double seals. Had to travel to town with in car and little to no order came from sealed bag. They did the job.

Works fine

I used this on a backpacking trip and it worked fine. I like that the bio-gel absorbs all liquids and was pretty smell-proof. My only complaint is that the zipper did not work on the bag I used - it wouldn't lock up, so that was concerning, as I didn't want all my waste to leak into my backpack. Luckily I brought an extra ziplock bag, so I stuffed the waste bag in there and then put it into a stuff sack for extra "protection". Hopefully that one bag's zipper was a dud.

Solid but pricey

These bags are great for overnight or emergency use, but I wouldn't rely on them for a primary toilet option because of price and capacity. The bio-gel seems worthless, so I add enough kitty litter to the bag so that it's not just complete liquid. This helps mitigate disaster if there's a spill, but I also do it out of consideration for the poor workers who empty garbage cans in case a bag happens to get punctured. The downside is the litter take up space, so the bag is only good for 1-3 uses in my experience.

You NEED These

These are the bags that are used with the 'Luggable Loo Portable Toilet.' Don't even think of using it without the bags. There are a bag within a bag. The outside one fits over the rim of the 'loo,' the inside one captures the waste and then you can seal it. This bag system keeps the loo completely dry and clean and relatively odor free. For what they do, they are a great value!
