The go to "cheap" wheel build

The combination of the Deore 525 hub and Rhyno Lite Disc rim has been the staple go to for a high quality cheap(er) wheel replacement. I have built many of these for people for well over a decade. It is the very epitome of the axiom "Strong, light, cheap...pick two." What you get for the money is Shimano's decades old proven cup and cone bearing design mated with the six bolt ISO disc brake rotor interface. The Rhyno Lite Disc rim is a double wall Al design that is well, well above the other "cheap" build typically offered that is only a single wall rim with regards to quality. The only thing I would suggest is to have this wheel checked by someone that knows wheelbuilding to ensure proper tension all around and trueness. Other than that, once a year I'd regrease the bearings. All in all, this combination is probably the best or second best upgrade to bicycles sold in the $300-$600 range, and sometimes even a hundred or two more, depending on the mfg.

What the heck!!

I'm a 3-day a week cross country recreational mountain biker. Nothing hardcore, just for fun type of riding. In 3 months I have had TWO hubs fail on me. The first was on the second ride on the wheel, and the second was after a month and a half. They both failed at the exact same point in my ride on a particularly steep but short uphill. I know that I'm a little bigger than the average person (230lbs), but that shouldn't be any excuse!! Ya these are inexpensive wheels, but now I see why!

nice wheels

Bought these to replace the stock wheelset on my gravel bike. They were true when I received them and have been good in rough rides and smooth rides for over a month. I set them up as tubeless with my Panaracer Gravel King SKs and they have been great. Will buy more for my other bike.

Not True out of the box

Just installed the wheel. It wasn't true right out of the box. It was about 1cm off. Fit great on my 2012 Scott Scale. Heading out this afternoon.

not rim brake compatible

This wheel is not machined for use with rim brakes as the description states and picture shows. I've heard good things about this rim, but I need something for use w/ rim brakes, so it'll go back. This would work fine if you only need disc brakes though.

Cheerful, expert repair service

The bike repair shop at REI is wonderful! I came in with a flat tire and the helpful and knowledgeable staffer had me on my way again in less than 20 minutes! As a member, I also appreciate the discount. It’s not just the quickest bike repair in my part of town, it’s the most reasonably priced.

Broke the hub

On a cross country bike the hub only lasted about two months. It's recreational use, I'm not racing or doing anything crazy
