Good Lordie! This thing is sent from God. This brush has a divine calling to clean all pots, pans, bowls, you name it! Dried food? GONE! Leftover mashed potatoes? ELIMINATED! Pancake batter? BYE BYE! Sand stuck in maple syrup? EXCERSICED! The devil himself could be in that pot and this brush could get it out. Also the bristles on the brush must be made from Michael the Archangel's hair, because those things aren't as sturdy as a rhinoceros, but as gentle as a mothers hug. I lost my oringal so I went and bought another because it is literally a gift from the Almighty! Go bless you pots and pans with one of these bad boys yourself!
I never thought I'd be writing a review about a dish scrubber at REI, but...here I am. I recently took this little guy on a 9-night trip camping through Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, and was honestly one of my favorite pieces of new gear that I brought, of all things. It actually worked exceedingly well in getting caked-on food off my stainless pans, something I struggle with in my own home kitchen...and given that more than half the time I was washing with ice cold water, that's saying something. Dries quickly, holds up well, both the brush and scraper work great, and it's $5. What more could you want?
The thing looks silly, but WORKS GREAT!! Got all the left overs, even burnt on bits. Angled to reach into all the corners of a pot with ease. After scraping out any remains, we swirled our pan with the smallest amount of water, did a quick scrub, and then wiped both the pot and scrapping tool off with a towel. Scraped off our cast iron griddle just as well, no water needed. Some food did start to stick into the bristles after a few days, but nothing a little soap and water didn't get off once we got home. Small and lightweight, great for car camping or a multi-day backpacking trip.
I bought this during a sale for only a couple of dollars, and like most of my gear I decided to try it out indoors before taking it outside with me. This is a very basic and simple product, but after the first time using it in my kitchen cleaning after making brunch, I decided to buy a second one for my camping kit and just leave it in the kitchen. The scraper was incredible for cleaning my cast iron skillet and the brush worked wonders for my waffle iron. I've so far only used it on a 2-day car camping trip, but with its minimal size and weight it makes life so much easier. It's $5, buy one.
I originally had this brush for dishes, but a friend of mine stole it when we were recently camping in the arctic. For the same reason this is great for dishes, it's also great for cleaning snow and ice off, which is crucial to keep your gear dry (and, therefore, warm). It has a great form factor, is very easy to grip tightly, the bristles are stiff and you can use it length-wise to get into crevices or the width-wise for larger areas, not to mention the tapered edges of the sides are good to scrape off ice. Ideal piece of kit.
I’m sure this thing is great at a campsite, but I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet (although that’s why I originally bought it!) Instead, I use it every day at home to clean our two cast iron skillets. You’re not supposed to use soap on cast iron lest it remove the seasoning, but just wiping with a cloth doesn’t get burned-on yuck off. The scraping edge on this tool does a great job of removing things like stuck-on egg, and using the bristles with a little bit of water lifts off any remaining grease. I’ve been using it for a year and it’s as good as new.
I stumbled across this on my way to the checkout and thought “hmm, that might make cleanup easier” That was a complete understatement. This simple little gadget is absolutely spectacular. Three sides make it perfect for almost any angle or situation. The plastic scraper ensures you can get tough grime off before rinsing and brushing. The brush bristles are stiff and do damage to food debris without hurting your cookware. Easy to hold, not bulky at all, and takes up no space in your camp kitchen supplies. You’ll love this!
I don't know how well this brush cleans pots & pans but I bought it for a fingernail cleaner. All the fingernail cleaner brushes I have owned or seen have bristles that are too soft to clean really dirty fingernails. This MSR brush has the stiffest bristles I have ever seen, perfect for cleaning your dirty fingernails after a bike or car repair!
I have had one of these for 5 years or so and love it. I am buying another for my camping gear because I keep the main one by the sink at home. It is a great little tool for cleaning cooked on food and cast iron. The brush is just the right toughness to clean without damaging pans and hold up to many uses. I'm going to grab some as small gifts for my friends. Do yourself a favor and buy a few!
The brush is good to clean inside a tent when it gets dirty
