REI Co-op  Passage 2 Tent

REI's Passage 2 tent has been reliable in a wide variety of weather and large enough for two people to comfortably fit. The vestibules on the sides allow you to sit in the tent while your boots stay outside, and have enough room for backpacks and other gear to stay out of the rain. While it's not ultra-lightweight, it's lightweight enough for us to carry on backpacking trips. It's been very durable, and has some insulation for cold environments. Last week we were convinced about the quality of our investment when it held up perfectly fine to high winds and occasional rain in Iceland. Ours has now been to a lot of Iceland, the Black Rock Desert during rain, The Lost Coast during heavy wind, and more. Incredibly easy and fast to set up, as some of those rainy nights tested. One person can set it up and take it down themselves without much issue, barring rain. The only negative is that we've had some problems with the zipper on the rainfly. It can easily catch and dirt can cause it to jam pretty easily. Basic maintenance and careful use should prevent that from being an issue.

The Passage 2 offers a very good value for the cost. With the poles packed separately the tent compresses quite well. With the tent's top venting, I haven't had any problems with condensation inside the tent. It has also performed well in non-stop rain and in windy conditions when properly guyed and staked. I use it as a solo backpacking tent as I like the extra room to keep my pack inside. The vestibules are fairly roomy, enough so that I had no problems cook inside of them when the rain kept my inside. It's simple set up also allows you to get it quickly pitched in raining conditions. If you want to start backpacking/camping and need a solid tent without breaking your budget, this is definitely a tent you should consider.

I've owned this tent for the past 4 years or so, I've never had any problems and loved every trip I've taken in it. Its two-pole design makes set up quick and easy. Poles are insanely durable. I was caught in a two-day gale-force wind/hailstorm in the Rockies in Montana a few years ago, this puppy didn't even budge! Also, because I am well over 6 ft tall, I use this as a 1 person tent. However I have found that it fits two comfortably, despite my freakish tallness. All in all this tent is a no brainer. I'll always reccomend the P2 to anybody buying their fist backpacking tent!

This tent is such a solid tent. Although this is not a 4 season tent, you can use it on occasion and still be shield from the elements, whether you backpack to the back country, car camp in the mountains or just decide that you want to sleep outside when it snows 10 in. in your back yard...it's a great tent. Never had problems with leaks, condensation buildup or wind seeping in. This tent is wind, water and snow tested and approved. Great for one person who needs extra room or two slim bodies.

In the past two years I used this tent many dozens of times in all four seasons. In that time, I've hauled it about 3,000 miles on my bicycle, sometimes strapped to handle bars, sometimes packed in a trailer. I've camped with just the fly, just the tent, and with the tent and fly. It's endured rain and snow and zero temperatures and never let me down. This is best piece of camping equipment I've ever owned.

My girlfriend and I have been using this tent for almost 2 years and have taken it on many outings from New Jersey to Oregon. It has held up well in some heavy rain and thunderstorms. We hike with two dogs(one about 45 lbs the other 75 lbs) and they fit just fine in there with us. The set up is easy and quick. The only issue is it's a little heavy as we have moved more towards lightweight backpacking. I would recommend this as a great first tent.

I used the tent for my first ever multi-day hiking trip on the 11 mile (each way) Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii. It's very compact when rolled up and good length to fit in my 55L hiking pack. I am 6'5" and the tent had room for me to lay straight with another person in the tent without my head or feet touching. Also had room to store some things inside even with two people. Nice height to sit and play cards. High quality fabric, stitching and nice aluminum tent poles, especially for the price. The wind ties require you to use rocks or something because there are only 6 stakes for the tent and rain fly. But, that saves weight. It did rain and we stayed dry inside along with our packs outside the tent and under the rain fly. It had the normal things you expect in a tent like a good size net basket hanging from the inside ceiling and pockets in all 4 corners. I found the rain fly to be sufficient for my 55L backpack to stay dry and it would also accommodate a larger pack. Best feature over a regular tent is the double entry/exit zippers. The zippers work easily and seem like they will last long. Also great green color.

I bought this 2.5 years ago for my mentally challenged son. I thought he could learn to set it up, and he has. My son is in a boy scout troop, and I've seen other boys have issues with other tents. Some tents require staking out in order to stay upright, and that's not always possible. Others leak or have fly issues. I've used this tent in the pouring rain and snow. And it has remained dry inside. Notice the rain beads, dry ground and interior in the picture. This is a great tent, and I definitely feel that I've gotten my money's worth.

I am continuously impressed by the quality and performance of this tent. I have trekked many hundreds of kilometers with it in Norwegian and Scottish Highlands, and it's really dependable and reliable. I haven't had a single problem with it. The vestibules are large enough to lay down two 65 L rucksacks and boots (put the rain on the rucksacks to make sure they don't get wet), so you have very generous space inside the tent. It could only be improved in weight, but for its price and durability, I can't complain at all. Very pleased. :-)

The Passage 2 for the price is worth its weight in gold hands down! As a 2 person tent this is perfectly spacious for 1 person without extra weight, the vestibules are also amazing if you want extra space inside. I backpack frequently for 2 to 4 night stays in the North Cascades, the performance of this tent handles wind and rain beautifully. The picture shows my Passage 2 in the sideways rain with puddles under my tent...NO WATER GOT IN MY TENT!!! Not through the floor (definitely purchase the footprint...makes all the difference!) not through the rainfly, put the flaps down up top and the only weather i got was a light breeze occasionally shifting through the tent. Had to spend 12 hours in the tent due to the weather. THANK YOU PASSAGE 2 FOR BEING AMAZING!!!
