Bison Design Belts
This is the second Bison Design belt I bought. The first belt (black material) is a much softer pliable cloth like material. The second belt (green material) is more plastic like. I was hoping the second belt material would be like the first. On both belts when under a load tended to slip through the buckle. I roughed up the smooth inside edges of the buckles that make contact with the webbing material with a file which grips and prevents the belt from loosening up.
Great for about 6-8 months of daily wear and then-
I bought my first belt in 2021 and wore it daily. After six or so months, the belt can no longer stay where you set it because the webbing becomes slippery where goes through the buckle. My 34" waistline hasn't changed in a decade; this is all about the smoothing of the belt material and the lack of 'grip' in the buckle itself. I feel the knurling isn't sufficient. So, I was at REI in 2022 and mentioned it to the person on the sales floor. They suggested I try another one. Well, here we are, six to eight months later, and the same issue is happening. I love the belt in terms of width, strength, and looks, but it simply will not stay tight once it gets some wear, requiring frequent slight tightening (every 2-3 minutes).
Critical reviewers: you’re using the belt wrong
Had two of these awesome beasts over the last 10 years. Both still fully functional, but buying a new one to rotate into circulation. These served me wonderfully doing disaster work for 5 years and later doing commercial tree work for 2 years. They’re bullet proof and NEVER SLIP IF YOU FASTEN PROPERLY (see photos). I guess my only complaint is apparently they need instructions so folks buying their belts know how you cinch them properly :) Word of advice: if you do physically intense work where you sweat a lot buy two so you can let one dry if it gets soaked. That said, they do a good job of fighting of stank: I spent 6 months in the US Virgin Islands doing disaster work and the belt never got stinky despite 3 months of it being regularly 90+ degrees and humid and the only washing it got was swimming in the ocean. Love these belts, man!
If the belt loosens, you're wearing it INCORRECTLY
I've had this belt going on 10 years now. I've worn it surfcasting countless times (saltwater dunkings and seaspray), hiking, and playing golf...it's my go to activity belt. Even after being dunked and sprayed with saltwater all these years, the buckle shows not one sign of rust or pitting. There is a picture on Bison's website (attached) showing you how to wear this belt correctly so it doesn't loosen up! After weaving the tag end (like most people seem to be doing), you need to then take the tag end AND PASS IT BACK THROUGH THE V RING! This crucial step is what creates the tension to hold the belt in place without slipping. Go enjoy your belts, now knowing how to wear it correctly.
The Best Belt
Durable, does not loosen, and fashionable on a uniform! Compared to the leather belt I was using before, this one is much lighter and unquestionably more comfortable, especially when you have to sleep with your belt on! Measured from the center of the belt buckle, my size medium belt measures about 41.75 inches. I can be pretty stingy, but I think it was definitely worth the money.
17 fire seasons-if it slips you're doing it wrong
I've had one of these since a jumper sewed me one in 2001. Here's the "correct" way to rig it. It doesn't slip, ever. Not in 17 fire seasons.
Excellent Heavy Duty Belt
This is the best heavy duty nylon belt I have ever owned. The buckle never slips! But with that said it is crucial that one feeds the strap through the buckle correctly which I found a bit confusing the first time I wore it. It binds well wet or dry and the tighter you pull it the titer the buckle binds. The belt material is very durable and doesn't stretch. I wear this hiking. Other similar belts I've owned loosen with time from the constant down force on my pants from my back pack. I presume those who report it as slipping are not feeding the belt through the buckle correctly. Very utilitarian, not a fashion item but highly recommend.
like a Ziptie for your pants!!
okay. i've worn this thing staight for several days. i think i have a grip on the situation. i love this thing!! i bought it to wear backpacking. i hope it is comfy under a hipbelt of a pack. i find out next month. back packing you lose weight, and my last REI belt i had to poke new holes. not with this belt. i quick yank and i can get a decent tension to hold up all my pants. downside? big glass of water + and a cup of coffee + long commute = troubles in the bathroom. maybe i havent practiced enough, but this belt can be difficult to undo..work fast!! i think i am gonna buy one for my brother as well.
Cinch It Correctly
I own three Last Chance Bison Design belts. My first one is in the neighborhood of 20 years old. Outstanding belt if you know how to cinch it correctly. Wrap the tail back through the V-ring. Check out the photo from Bison Designs.
Great Belt - but needs a little tweeking
Possibly the best sports belt I have ever owned, but the square trimming in the end of the belt makes it difficult to insert in the buckle. That's why I gave it four stars instead of five. To remedy, use a sharp scissors to make two 45 degree cuts in the end, then use a couple of drops of CA glue (like Crazy Glue) to keep the weave from unraveling. I expect a few drops of black or clear lacquer (like black touch up paint, or nail polish) would work as well. Hopefully the manufacturer will see this comment and round off or taper the end.
