Sizing notes

Measurements equal the length of belt in inches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By far the best belt I've ever owned. I agree completely with the previous positive reviewer. I've had some terrible fabric belts, but this one has been virtually perfect, and I've worn it daily for several years in every conceivable situation. The belt stays flat (doesn't roll), and the buckle has been bombproof, offering (as the other guy said) infinite micro adjustment and gripping tightly - never ever slipping. I'm writing my review to get the rating up on this excellent product. REI should offer a broader selection of Bison T-lock belts; a much more extensive range of colors and patterns is available. I didn't know about the wide (38mm) style until I read the other review, and I intend to purchase one right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lasts forever This is the second Bison belt that I have purchased from REI. The first I purchased, similar model, different color, about 10 years ago. I have worn that belt pretty regularly and it still looks new. Neither the webbing nor the buckle has worn. I hardly ever wear my leather belts at this point, except when I have to wear a suit. These are the most comfortable belts, infinitely adjustable, light, good-looking (I often get compliments when I wear these belts), and cruelty free. And they are not very costly! Just amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Belt and Warranty Service Too I have 2 Bison T Lock belts of different webbing styles and have owned them for several years. Was pretty happy with them, light, functional, adjustable, comfortable. Didn't think much about them really, its a belt, whats there to think about? Well, not paying attention I left one on the floor while packing gear for a trip and stepped on the buckle. Understandably, snap it goes. Completely my fault. I write Bison and they said to send it in and they'd fix it...for free, including return postage. Got to love a great belt and a company that backs them up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adjustable, Comfortable and Durable I needed a belt to wear while backpacking. I was looking for something that was adjustable as I expect to lose weight during my AT thru hike next year. With this belt, you can dial in the perfect fit and once the buckle is locked down, it WILL NOT SLIP during an active day on the trail. I was also looking for a belt with a flat profile that would be comfortable underneath a padded backpack hip belt and not interfere with the front buckle of the backpack hip belt. This belt is very thin and has a flat buckle which makes for the perfect flat profile underneath my backpack hip belt. The buckle is made out of a hard scratch resistant plastic. There have been a couple of times when I thought for sure that I had scratched it but so far, no scratches or dings. This belt is so light weight and trouble free, you don't even know it's there. After researching other backpacking belts, this wins on quality and bang for the buck. It is exactly what I was looking for at a very fair price point vs. competitive offerings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great All Around Belt I do really like the lightweight nature of this belt. It is also not flimsy, and not too stiff so they got that right. The buckle is plastic, and I do like how the mechanism works. It also doesn't stick way out from your waistline like some buckles. The plastic is more prone to breaking so that is my only con to this belt.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buckle breaks The webbing is very stiff, which is nice. The small tabs which allow the T-lock buckle/cam to rotate have broken while in use. These pivots are very small and easily break. REI allowed an exchange the first time and Bison replaced the buckle for $2 plus I was out the shipping to them. I'll probably have this one fixed again, but this should not happen. I really hate poor design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most practical belt I have ever owned. I am surprised that the earlier reviewer of this product had problems. My experience was the opposite. Mine has been absolutely reliable and I have given it almost daily wear for about 7 years. It still even looks brand new. The buckle is plastic and I would not have expected it to last this long, but it has been a champ. Better still, it can be adjusted in small increments to any size, it holds the set size absolutely with no slip, and is very easy to open and close. The fact that it is nylon means that it is great around water or for sweaty activities. If you are backpacking and using a suspension hip belt, you will definitely want a flat, low-profile belt like this to wear under the hip belt for comfort. I originally bought it to replace the cheap and nearly useless web belt that comes with the Columbia Silver Ridge shorts (also the REI Sahara shorts). It has been perfect for that. However, it has proven so comfortable and practical that it has become my go-to belt for all of my casual clothing. The only wish I have is that it were just a little wider. It is perfect for lightweight shorts, but could stand to look a bit wider for heavier long pants. I noticed that Bison Designs also manufactures it in a 38mm width (this one is 30mm), which would be nice for those uses. However, I am still very happy with this one for all of my casual wear needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Belt Great belt. Tightens well and the belt won't slip through the buckle. Looks great with a pair of jeans or up in the mountains!

Questions & Answers

My waist is 30 inches, so a 44 inch long medium is going to be way long. Can the webbing be trimmed?

Asked by: mtn drew
Yes, this belt can be cut and trimmed, but you have to use a lighter or candle to melt the cut end to prevent fraying. I do this to all my belts.
