I bought Ben's based on the rating in Consumer Reports. It has a lighter scent than OFF and was very effective at keeping mosquitos away. But the spray hardware is a disaster. I had to push it SO hard to get any to spray and even had to set the can on a table and with a finger pressed very very hard on the button in order to apply enough pressure to get spray, and then had to move my hands and legs in front of the spray. And then the can dripped all over. I even bought a second can and its applicator was just as bad. The repellent was very effective and felt lighter on my skin that OFF but it was so hard to get out of the can - it wasn't worth it. I won't be buying this product again.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I told all of my fellow hiking buddy's about this tick and insect repellent. I am used to using the "big name" brand's of insect repellent which have a terrible and STRONG odor. With Ben's, I was super amazed at how it didn't smell like the repellents I was used to. To make it better, I did not receive ANY bites while hiking. Every time I go out to the woods, mountains or forests, I make sure to bring Ben's tick and insect repellent. It is the ONLY repellent I will use now. I highly recommend. It is super easy to use. Just spray it on and your good to go.
I've been using this on my pre-adolescent kids when they go to day-camp in a wooded insect-infested area. Zero bites (not one!) in 4 weeks on either kid. Deep Woods Off was not nearly as effective. This can makes the repellant easy to apply. It's filled with pressurized air so it's got a funny sound when spraying. But it works great. We're delighted.
Tested this out in Arkansas in mosquito weather, and it did a *pretty* good job of fending off mosquitos and other bugs, but it definitely needs a lot of reapplication to stay effective in the heat. Trying it out around Houston in buggier areas seems to work well, but a few mosquitos will make there way in here and there. I seemed to get some irritation after applying this after getting a bug bite, so I'd be careful of that. The sprayer also is a bit odd, but mine may be defective, as it comes out as two streams of the repellant instead of an aerosolized spray.
Pretty darn happy with Ben's! I work outdoors all day on our ranch. Horses equal Flies! The little biting flies are the worst. I spray Ben's on my arms and legs (I like to wear shorts in summer) and FINALLY...No Biting Flies! Happy to find this product. Also awesome that it sprays really well in all angles!
I'm in the woods every day and bugs love me- ticks too! This stuff really works. Since switching to this, bug bites aren't a problem. This product feels oily so if you don't like that, this might not be for you.
If you are going into infested areas, Ben's is the stuff to take. Went to Cumberland Island in Saint Mary's GA in June and took our can of Ben's and had zero problems with mosquito bites.
I used this in a heavily Mosquito populated camp in Oregon and it repelled very well. I also liked the feel after it was applied. Not as oily as others.
Kept away black flies, ticks and mosquitoes during hikes in the white mountains of NH. Nothing else has worked so well for me.
I picked this up for a trip up north and I don't regret it! The can was nice and compact so it fit nicely into my pack, the formula applies well and is super comfortable on the skin, and it lasts a long time!
