Good little bottle
I actually LIKE these new bottles. I used the old bottles many times and one issue I had was that if you didn't shut it really tight, they could leak gas all over your gear. The trick to these new caps is to NOT crank them down to tight as the child lock mech takes care of leaking issues. If you can get into the can the white gas (or whatever) comes in, you should be able to get into these without a problem, just don't use gorilla strength when you close it. This 11oz bottle is perfect for extended weekends in the back country as long as I don't have to use the stove to melt snow for water, in which case it works for short overnight trips.
Perfect Bottle For Short Trips
I found this MSR bottle to be the perfect size for weekend and extended weekend backpacking/paddling trips. At 11 fluid ounces I can eat three hot meals a day, enjoy a cup or two of coffee and/or hot chocolate, all while reducing the fuel weight that comes with carrying a larger bottle. Staying true to MSR tradition, the bottle is both and durable and leak proof. The childproof cap works well as designed and is only difficult to remove when over-tightened on the bottle, I made this mistake myself. A snug fit between the cap and the bottle is all that is needed to form a seal and prevent leaking. I have used MSR fuel bottles for many years and have yet to be disappointed.
Not as bad as everyone says
This bottle works just like the old ones. I've used the old style bottles and now have used the new style. I don't see any problem with the new ones at all. To open the bottle it's just like any child proof lock, all you do is push down and twist the cap. It not a backbreaking process to open it
No more crunchy dehydrated food packs!!
I do a lot of traveling with camp gear and one of my biggest problems if flying with compressed gasses. You know those little bottles of ISO gas. Ya you cant fly with those!! Many of the locations that I have traveled too ALSO don't sell compressed gas. This has left me numerous times looking down at my stock pile of dehydrated food packs and no means to heat water to eat them...mmmmm crunchy... So recently i converted to the whisper light series using these handy bottles to carry fuel. No need to worry about fly ( just empty the bottles first) and refilling ( as long as theres a gas station somewhere). Happy Adventuring !!
perfect size
I have the larger bottle for use as a scout leader. For personal use this size is perfect.
Won't work with Primus Stoves
I wanted this to go with my Primus OmniFuel for short term hikes. However, the diameter of this bottle is smaller than the diameter of Primus bottles. Consequently, you cannot install the Primus Ergopump into the bottle without cross threading. What happens, is that the brass snorkel tube interferes with the insertion of the pump. I liked the cap assembly of the new MSR bottles, and had no trouble opening/closing. But I only did this with a dry bottle. Since this bottle won't work with my stove, it's back to REI for this item. Primus does manufacture a .35L bottle, perhaps REI could carry it.
Simple but perfect
Perfect size for a 3 day backpacking trip. Light weight and can pack it anywhere. Worked great for my needs
Preferred over dang canister shenanigans.
I usually camp at high altitude and/or with a number of friends which alone needs liquid fuel superiority. In addition, the canisters that seem to be all the rage are practically un-recyclable and cumbersome when partially full. Ridiculous. These MSR bottles have been camping partners of mine for decades.
20 years old and still going
I bought this fuel bottle to transport fuel for a Peak 1 stove 20+ years ago, finally bought a WhisperLite and actually used the bottle as intended. After 20 years I did replace the o-ring on the cap but thats been it.
Great non spill option.
This thing is awesome for fuel storage never leaks and is just and overal great product that holds enough fuel to last long trips.
