Leaky Lid
I’ve had the cube shaped Reliance 7 gallon jug for about 2 years and have had no problems with it. I ended up getting this skinnier version last week for space efficiency and found out on my camping trip this weekend that it leaks quite a bit when it’s on its side. I readjusted the cap a few times to try to correct this but couldn’t get it to stop leaking so I ended up having to stand it up every time I was done using it, make it pretty inconvenient. I’m planning on returning it. I may purchase another in case this one was just defective because the shape of this container allowed me to store it on my hitch cargo carrier along with my cooler and another bin.
You need to upgrade the faucet
The faucets on these things are terrible. You need at least to get a gasket for a garden hose and put it on the spout before you screw it in or do what I did, which is way better (see photo)
Still leaks
Bought this updated model hoping Reliance would have fixed the leaky spout issue… but they didn’t. I don’t think I’ve ever left a review before but its just silly they couldn’t fix this. I was able to create a seal by purchasing an o-ring from the hardware store and 3D printing a washer to keep the spout facing down. Still, I shouldn’t have to fix the shortcomings of their design.
Super Compact, Reliable Container
Bought this for a 2.5 week car camping trip across the western national parks and this thing rocked. Holds a TON of water. Not once did we have to fill up over the trip. Compact skinny design allowed it to sit on the floor between back seat and front seat of car. When you need water, Boom, turn it horizontal to access the spigot. When driving, boom, turn it upright. Never had leaks of any kind. Spigot was great to control flow. Smelled strong of plastic initially but gave it a good wash and I didn’t have any issue of water tasting like plastic after. 10/10 recommend.
Good for two people over a weekend.
Sturdy water canister with functional water spout. 7 gallon capacity was good for two people for 1 weekend, drinking, cooking and cleaning. I like the spout can easily control the amount of flow. Spout can be inverted so while transporting it doesn’t stick out.
Improved model
This model is a significant improvement over their last version. Squatter shape so it doesn't tip over in the truck or on picnic table. The spout is easier to turn so the kiddos can turn it on their own. The pressure release is now a cap instead of this tiny water gun plug. I got 3 for camping trips and they fit nicely side by side in my truck bed. I would give it a 5 if the plastic was thicker but can't beat the value for the price point.
Worth the extra couple bucks
I feel like this is an upgrade to the classic cube aquatainer. The dual handles make it easier to move when full and tip up and down for use. I've found the narrow shape to be a little nicer for packing into a loaded trunk of camping gear. The plastic seems a little thicker, which will hopefully be good for durability. Only downside is the think plastic does make it harder to see how full the container is.
The dispenser spouts leak
We’ve used Reliance 7 gal cube shaped before and love them. We thought these would be even better because of the new shape. We bought three. Unfortunately, they let us down. They only hold about 6.5 gallons, and the dispenser spout leaks, so we couldn’t leave them on their sides for ease of dispensing. Very disappointed.
No Mods and No Leaks!
I just received this today and have it filled about halfway and it hasn't leaked so far. I was leary due to the reviews saying it leaked but could be fixed with some light modifications. I'm happy to report no leaks! (at least so far)
Does not carry 7 gallons!
I've owned 6 of the cube shaped aquatainers from reliance. Those carry 7 gallons, and after about 8 years of using them, I've never had one overflow for any reason. I saw these Jumbo-tainers and thought they would be easier to set behind the seats in my truck, which is true. However, something that is not true is the stated 7 gallon capacity. I bought two, and unless the water dispenser was being generous that day, both started overflowing just after 6-6.5 gallons. The first time I thought maybe some how I bought an 8th gallon, but sure enough it happened on both fill ups, so I left about a gallon of water on the grocery store floor. Embarrassing, but not as much as the person who labeled these should be. Shame on reliance for not labeling these correctly. I don't know how anyone else doesn't mention that. Again, who knows, maybe the dispenser was acting up that day and the sensor or timer was off. I don't know how water vendors work.
