Not as Rugged as I'd Hoped

Having used the lock for a couple of years, I was satisfied with its utility. However, the post inside one part of the lock mechanism somehow got broken off, rendering the lock useless. Was advised by Lasso that it was not repairable but that I could buy a replacement at a discount. I elected to go back to the other type of cable lock that uses a padlock. For me, at least, the convenience of the integrated barrel lock doesn't outweigh the loss of ruggedness.

Failed when locked

Works until it doesn't, then you are stuck: what happens is that it is very easy to turn the inner barrel when locking it if the cable is tight. Then, your combination will not work, and you will think it is stuck. Customer support is nonexistent. I was lucky, and "figured" out that the sequence of numbers didn't change, but I guessed that the internal barrel apparently rotated as I was locking it, and thus the sequence was off by by one notch across the lock. I just had to figure which side it was off. Wasted three hours. This piece of unmitigated junk will be returned to rei, and I suggest they not carry it, since failure of this sort is unacceptable, and I probably just go lucky.

Not quite as described

Very well made product, but the instructions refer to one end being a larger loop than the other and that is definitely NOT the case. The lasso ends are very small making them remain near the outermost ends of your kayak when you are trying to run the heavy coated cable to meet the other end in the middle of your roof in addition to having to wrap the cable excesses around your roof racks to adjust for any slack. The combo lock can easily hit the roof of your car in this process as well.

Protects my kayak from easy theft

I actually have 3 kayak locks for my car. All 3 are lasso style. This is my favorite one because the cable is the thickest and I don’t have to worry about forgetting the key! I have it 4 instead of 5 stars because the lock can scratch the car. If it had a rubber cover it would be a 5. I should add that I obtained this lock (and the two others, one useless)) used.

Lasso Lock and Lasso Lock 2

I have been using both of these lock (combo version) some approximately 6 months now and have had great results. I use them for outside storage of multiple kayaks - locks have been easy to operate and change combos, easy to install, require no maintenance and appear to be an effect theft deterrent. Great product, highly recommended!!!

Double Security for Lasso Lock

This locking system is perfect for the intent of the product. The lock itself is solid and is very easy to assign a unique combination. An improvement over this would include a rubber sleeve that would slide over the lock mechanism on each end, to add protection to the painted surface of a vehicle while weaving the cable in and around the roof racks to secure the kayak.

Security brings more peace of mind.

Fits just fine on my Necky Zoar Sport. Will have to see how it performs at highway speeds. If there's a problem, it's just as easy to put it on before or after a time on the road. Cable seems plenty thick to discourage thieves.

Great product & product support

You get what you need with this package. You lock your boat to your roof rack, so that someone else's unlocked boat gets stolen. Great for peace of mind in a hotel parking lot or your own driveway. Product support for an older keylock version exceeded expectations. I suggest you buy this product to keep your valuable kayak in your possession.
