Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keep the front wheel on! This bike bra is terrific. It stretches right over a large road bike without having to remove the front wheel, prior to mounting on a bike rack -- there is sufficient clearance above the front wheel to be able roll the bike in and out of the garage. I believe it is the only one of its kind out there to offer this functionality. Also, nice elastics in place to attach the lower front of the bra to the front forks. Works like a charm on a big bike atop a Thule rack. That said, not sure how waterproof it is, so likely good idea to combine with a waterproof seat cover (or plastic shopping bag) to ensure a dry saddle. Not cheap, but extremely good value and extremely functional. It stops bugs aplenty, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Endured Long Road Trip I drove from Minnesota to Bozeman, MT using this on my road bike thru a lot of buggy interstate highways. The front of my car and trailer were plastered with dead insects as was the Defender, but hardly any insects on the bike frame and just a few on the lower part of the fork.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expect to take a gas mileage hit. It keeps the bugs off. Works with road bike, mountain bike, fat bike, single speed, and tandem. After one season of use, the seams started to tear. But the drop in gas mileage is noticeable, it being on top of the car and all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't travel without this! Took our bikes from Seattle to Yellowstone late spring. My bike, facing forward, had the defender; the other bike would have had to face backward so the defender would not work, obviously, so we put the 2nd bike on the back rack. By the time we arrived in MT that night, the defender was covered with bugs. It saved my handlebars, forks, and seat from bug guts. If you want to carry your bike on top, you need this gem. Now they need to come up with something for backward-facing bikes!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor construction While a great idea, it started coming apart at the seams after only half a dozen uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple solution I couldn't find a similar product made for a large mountain bike, so I took a chance on this one. It fits my Stumpjumper 29'er pretty well. The fork protection could be a little better, but it seems pretty good for the price. Its very strechy and covers all of the shifters and brake handles, and covers the saddle as well. Does not protect against rain, but its not a total cover anyway.

Does this act like a sail on the car, creating wind obstruction?

Asked by: DrawDraw
This product is designed for roof-top carriers. The Scicon website states that their AFX (areoflux system) fabric is engineered to minimize drag and improve airflow, so the wind drag issue was considered in the design.
