MSR Superfuel
Used this fuel with my dragonfly stove at about 9000 feet. I knew it was overkill to buy a quart of this for $14 vs a gallon of coleman for $10, but better safe than sorry. Worked perfect. Have nothing bad to say about it. 3 days and 2 nights winter camping in desolation wilderness - we cooked A TON and ate some gourmet food, thanks to MSR's nifty dragonfly and this awesome fuel that never seemed to run low. Only downside is that I still had a ton of fuel at the end of my trip, despite all the cooking, and my pack was heavier than I would have hoped on the way back out.
Clean fuel means clean stove
This fuel is cheaper than gas cartridges, even though it is expensive. It is clean and burns clean, so perhaps the cost is in producing clean burning fuel. I used gas once for two meals. My MSR Whisperlite did slow down a little. It did not clog, however, I could tell it was not burning as clean. I now only use MSR super fuel, except in very desperate situations. And actually, given how long a quart lasts, and how my stove works better, the cost equals out.
Consider this when you question ""Value""
The only objections I read concerning SuperFuel is the cost. If you don't use your stove often, or store quantities of fuel for emergencies, consider this: I opened a can yesterday that was 10 years old and it ran my stove flawlessly! No reduction in performance - a quart of water boiled as fast as it ever does. MSR produces the finest stoves in the world that work reliably at altitude and help protect the health and safety of climbers who use them. The only variable is the fuel. Use it - don't use it, but if you need absolute reliability either at altitude or in a future emergency why quibble about cost?
Works all the time.
Using the MSR fuel I never have problem. In the middle of the woods is the last place you want a problem.
Clean
I have used this fuel before so decided to buy another container. When i run the fuel through my stove i do not get build up like other fuels.
It works
I don't think it's worth twice the price of the other options, you still end up needing to clean your stove's jets etc.. but it burns, and gets the job done
Premium camp fuel but worth it
This fuel is very clean burning in a backpack stove with minimal clogging. It also works well in catalytic handwarmers and gives off minimal fumes without fouling the burner(DO NOT use other camp fuels in these; the rust preventatives build up and leave a waxy residue inside the cotton!)
Volume of Fuel Equals Big Issue
32oz in the container. Standard fuel bottle size is 20oz. If you want to do a multi-day winter trip and you need two full 20oz bottles of fuel, you have to buy another quart. That's fine unless you're flying to your destination and buying fuel upon your arrival, in which case you'll have to dispose of the leftover fuel. Even if you use the large 30oz fuel canister, you'll have 2oz left over. If you want to burn off the remaining fuel, you'll need to bring the can into the backcountry or burn it off at your car or somewhere else before flying home. For reference, I used all 32oz over six days of melting snow in the backcountry but found myself rationing the fuel by day five. If I had fuel left at the end of the trip, at least I could have burned off the fuel while thawing out my hands or gear on the last day. Bottom line is there is no way to effectively utilize the amount of fuel sold in these cans and MSR needs to roll out a 20oz or 40oz option.
Reliable Fuel
I have been using this fuel for the past 5 years since purchasing an MSR stove. Never had a bit of issue from the stove I can attribute to some degree to the fuel. I can say that some friends of mine have used other brand fuels and did not have the same luck
Most reliable, lowest carbon footprint fuel type.
White gas from a reputable source is what I needed to ensure happy camping.
