Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value, Great Product This was a great purchase. We used it to store all our luggage for a 10 day, 2500 mile roadtrip. This model doesn't require you to buy the 'cross bracing' for the luggage rack on the top of the minivan which would have cost another couple hundred bucks. The Sherpak 15 kept everything dry and in place for our trip and now is stored very easily in the garage as all I had to do was fold it up (versus storing a hard carrier). I'd suggest getting the pad that goes underneath as well...keeps things from slipping and stops the car from getting scratched. Couldn't be happier with the purchase and it was worth researching everyone's previous reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Carrier I have used this bag for trips of all lengths. The longest trip has been 540 miles and the carrier performed flawlessly through sun and rain. I use the carrier on an 05 Equinox. My only complaint (not a fault of the carrier) is with the roof rack on my Equinox. The crossbars aren't spread apart far enough front-to-back, so I have to loop the straps under the carrier and around the cross bars. A bit of a hassle, but the more I use the carrier, the easier it is to load and attach to my vehicle. I have also found that it is helpful to make sure the corners are full and this allows for easier tightening of the straps to the roof rack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proves itself again and again... I recently took the family on a road trip from Seattle to Whisler, BC. Due to really bad weather, the normally about 4.5 hour trip took almost 8.5 hours. I set up the Sherpak on our minivan before leaving the house and placed two large roller duffels and a pack-n-play inside. It rained hard and solid up to Vancouver, then switched to freezing rain, and finally a blizzard for about the last 40 miles to Whistler. When we got to the condo, a solid sheet of ice had formed over the bag and the straps were frozen. I shattered the ice and started to unload. There wasn't a single drop of water or ice inside the bag. This bag is amazing and continues to prove itself over and over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable Rooftop Carrier I recently used the Sherpak while relocating from Seattle, WA to Washington, DC. I packed and unpacked it 10 times in 10 days and it held up admirably and was super easy to install. I used the strap extenders because my vehicle a 2009 Jeep Liberty does not have roof rails of any sort. My only two compaints are the plastic buckles on the compression straps are a bit flimsy, I have snapped two of them. The main buckles securing the Sherpak to the car are much beefier and sturdier. The other is the "strap management system" (my term). I used duct tape each day to prevent the slack on the straps from blowing in the wind. These are minor complaints and I highly recommend this item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for moving cross country! The Sherpak helped me move from Washington, DC to Houston, TX. Since I was only bringing my car I was able to load all of my clothes, bedding, shoes, and plenty of odds and ends so that I'd have more room for other things in my car. The Sherpak is great because of the sheer amount it can hold. It didn't slide around on top of my car or scratch my paint. It rained and frosted on my trip and none of my belongings were damaged or wet. After I unloaded it I was able to fold it up small and keep it in my car!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install and waterproof We used the bag on a two-day trip from Wisconsin to Georgia. We installed it on our Honda Pilot using the side rails. Heard a little bit of strap noise once we hit 80 mph, but the "strap keepers" kept everything in place, we just wrapped the excess strap around itself and slid it under the strap keepers. It was very easy to install, though the material was a bit stiff in the cold. I slid the first duffle bag into a corner to hold the bag open, and it was easy to load up. We saw about a 0.2-0.5 mpg dip in gas mileage. We like that you can use the compression straps to adjust the bag to fit the load you have mounted (vs. a hard-top carrier) and that we'll be able to use it on our Honda Fit as well, which doesn't have any roof rails. The bag remained waterproof through the snow and salty muck, so everything inside was dry, and the bag was easy to wipe clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value, Good alternative versus hard top In a word it was fantastic. I could fit all six of our carry on suitcases and more in the bag. It was easy to mount on the roof (four clips). We drove approximately 1,500 miles and often over 80mph…no problems. We drove back through very heavy rain for several hours and everything stayed completely dry. For $110.00 I think it’s a great value. Extra I do not need to find room in my garage for a hardtop car top carrier.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please don't buy, doesn't last We bought this a little over a year ago and have used it 4 times on road trips. We loved it at first. Waterproof, folds up small to store and provided much needed extra storage for car trips. However, on our last road trip, we arrived home and noticed a big section of the outside coating was missing, making it unusable. Since we were over the 12 month guarantee that REI offers, I contacted the manufacture, Seattle Sports. They asked for pictures which I sent and they replied quickly that it appeared "wind wiped', damage caused by the wind, and not covered under warranty. I was rather surprised, a car top carrier, not designed to withstand wind????? That is simply crazy. What do they expect you are going to use this car top bag for, parking in the garage???? If you plan to use this roof bag multiple times, I would highly recommend that you look elsewhere. Our family simply does not have the money to replace this product each year or so.

Will this bag work for a 4runner without racks?

Asked by: JuJu
Yes, the webbing straps will slip through the door openings and through the cabin of vehicle to cinch the bag on the roof of the vehicle. You will want to include a slipmat as well between the bottom of the bag and the roof of your 4Runner to keep the roof bag from shifting in transit and scratching the paint.

If you dont have side bars or rails on your car and it attaches through the windows does that mean the windows are left cracked open? Or is any kind of whistleing coming through?

Asked by: Mary Rose
If you do not have a roof rack or side rails on your vehicle, you will want to attach this roof bag through your doors. We do not recommend threading the straps through the windows.

Would this bag be used on a sedan without any roof rack or side bars? Are the straps long enough to loop around the car roof and interior?

Asked by: Chin
This bag can be used on most sedans without a roof rack or side bars. This bag is not intended to be used on cars that have a sunroof. The straps are long enough to go under the interior of the car. We recommend contacting Seattle Sports directly to confirm if this will fit your exact vehicle.
