Features

  • Locking mechanism can be disabled with a carabiner when a hand is needed to negotiate a drop
  • Handle is squeezed to descend normally, controlling speed with the other hand; slack rope can easily be taken up
  • All control surfaces are stainless steel
  • Works best with clean, flexible rope, stiff rope may result in greatly impaired or reduced friction and the stop feature may be inoperative
Warning: Stop feature is a convenience feature for temporary stopping on descent and not a safety for uncontrolled rappels.

A Pleasure To Use

I used these all summer long on a 200ft rappel as a guide in Texas. I absolutely love them! They're really simple to set up and use, and I like them much more than figure 8's. Descending is smooth and the friction-release makes it possible to adapt it to your weight and get the speed that you want. I also think they're a bit easier on your hands. I absolutely recommend it! Here's a picture the stops in use; because it was a summer camp for students (who had little or no ropes experience) we had extra belay-lines.

Excellent descending tool

Preferred in Europe to the rack, this auto-stop bobbin is fast to load, and can be loaded with one hand with practice, should the need arise. Works equally well on static and dynamic rope, although 8mm static rope does tend to slide through and require a firm brake hand. I use this descending into cave pits, solo rope-climbing, and when practicing changeover (from ascent to descent while hanging on single rope). The build quiality is awesome, it's totally solid, and a joy to use each time.
