Leave No Trace: Even biodegradable soaps and cleansers shouldn't be used in a natural water source. To wash yourself, your laundry or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap (a little goes a long way). Then pour wastewater into a cat hole 6 to 8 inches deep.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be aware: Environmental Impacts According to LNT guidelines, and everyone else, don't use this soap, or any other soap (organic or not) within 200 feet of lakes, streams, springs, what have you. This soap decomposes in soil, so that means don't lather up and jump into the lake. That's like throwing some Tide Laundry soap in the lake - its not good for the fishies. What I like to do: fill up a camelback or couple of water jugs, then get away from the water source (also, don't go towards your campsite in bear territory). Wet your hair, lather up, then dump all the water you please to rinse out this soap. It goes into the soil with minimal harmful impacts. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use it every day! I was introduced to this product over the summer while at camp. Not only does it work incredibly well, it is biodegradable. I worked on Torch Lake over the summer and I did not take a conventional shower one time in almost 3 months. All I used was DB's in the lake and I was still cleaner than half the people there. We kept bottles of this stuff at the end of the pier and made the campers use it before going to see their parents. The best part is their parents thought their kids had been showering everyday because they smelled so good. This is a very good investment. I bought a gallon jug over 6 months ago and I have only used 1/3 of it. GREAT PRODUCT!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only soap I bring! Dr. Bronners soap packs more uses per ounce than anything out there. I've used it for washing myself, washing dishes and even brushing my teeth (but just a drop!). The peppermint scent is by far the best, especially if you plan to use it on those chompers. Lavender breath just doesn't seem right. Tip: Try putting it in a dropper bottle. On a three day backpacking trip, for example, I can bring only 0.5oz worth and it's more than enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great soap but has limits This soap works well, as others have commented. My two cents: if you use for camping/backpacking in small portions (say a squeeze bottle, half ounce), the nozzle/thing that drips the soap may dry out and become clogged. Not a big deal, grab a small stick, stem of grass, etc and clear out the blockage. Just be aware of this and don't squeeze your bottle too hard if the soap does not flow, you will burst the tube. The soap "block" is still water soluble so use it when it comes out like a worm., so use it to clean as normal. Just a heads up. I use this for backpacking and like it. Happy trails!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only thing i use! I use this soap everyday to brush my teeth and use it when i get a chance to bathe. As a soap it is great! As a toothpaste it is so so for me. I build up alot of plaque and even though it gets most of it off i still have to brush for a long while to get it all. The taste takes a bit to get used to as well. It smells great, takes oils, dirts, and grime off my skin well and with a bit of lathering it keeps my hair from being nasty. Even though i still try and not bathe in streams and bodies of water, i wont feel guilty when i absolutely have to. Another thing i like about it is that 8oz in a small screw top bottle will last for WEEKS if you bathe every other day or so and brush your teeth everyday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Liquid Soap Its great to find this soap at REI. Its very versatile for camping or home use and good for the earth as its made out of earth friendly soap components. Makes your body tingle all over and serves as a good shampoo and body wash. This is a concentrated soap so you can make it last a good long time if you dilute it properly although we like using it at full concentrated strength. Works well as a general cleaner although its not the greatest for doing dishes in cold water (when camping or hiking) but it will do the job with some elbow grease and being applied directly to the dishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Soap & Shampoo when traveling I travel with Dr Bronners soap in a 2 oz nalgene bottle. Use for both shampoo and soap. Works great. Does not dry out skin like regular soaps or shampoos can. I bought a 32 oz bottle from REI about 10 years ago and am just finishing it up now. I have used it as toothpaste while camping and it works fine. Doesn't really taste like peppermint. I'm a frugal shopper and can recommend Dr Bronners soap as an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Everything Bronner's soaps are simply the best, a good natural soap that's not full of junk that is bad for your skin/body. I've used as shampoo, body soap, shaving, teeth brushing, and dish washing and it works great for all of those. At home I dilute pretty heavily for hand washing which makes it last a very long time. Dr Bronner also makes a product called Sal Suds which is awesome for household cleaning.
