This jacket is warm, well made, packed with features, and offers a great range of movement for skiing/snowboarding. When combined with good quality base and mid layers, I've been comfortable in single digit temps with winds in the 40 mph range. Plenty of pocket space to stow your essentials without it feeling like it's overly bulky. The helmet compatible hood fits well and stays securely in place, even in high winds. If I could change one thing, I'd make the hood removeable as I don't like to ski with it up unless the wetaher dictates it's needed, otherwise, this jacket is pretty close to perfect for me.
Overall jacket construct is excellent as a versatile ski jacket. The cut is fairly roomy without being bulky, the insulation and venting make it adaptable even on variable days. It is very weather proof with the powder skirt, inner sleve cuffs, and gore tex construction which is great. The pit zips let you really dump heat if it gets too hot . There are a few details that are bothersome but probably not deal breakers. The outer chest pocket liner gets jammed in the zipper all the time due to its softness and bulk. The inside chest pocket is right behind the outside chest pocket so you end up kind of lop sided with a big bulky blob in your left upper chest. The hood is large enough to go over a helmet which is nice but the adjustability leaves something to be desired as it doesn't really cinch down that well and maintain visibility. Also, the bottom of the hood isn't really snug and can kind of scoop in wind in blustery conditions. I do like that the hood has some insulation for warmth when not wearing a helmet. Overall a nice ski jacket whose biggest selling feature for me was the built in insulation which is great for most ski conditions except super warm spring days. It works very well in that zone. The little details, especially the jammed zipper, are however, routinely annoying.
I wear this jacket for resort skiing on really cold days ( below 10°F). I’m in my late 60’s and ski about 60 days per year at Steamboat. We usually start at 8 AM and normally wear a shell over an insulating layer. Most years there are about a dozen days in mid-winter when the temp is between 10° and -15° and that kit is just not warm enough. I tried wearing an additional layer under my shell but it feels way too restrictive. The Doublecharge jacket works great for me on those unusually cold, windy, dark mornings. My insulator fits nicely underneath and with the hood up my core stays comfortable, which helps keep my hands and feet warmer too. I’ve tried a couple other insulated jackets and the Doublecharge is the best on those days when it’s too cold for most folks to get out.
I needed to replace my older ski outfit, and my wife convinced me to go with Stio after I had drooled over Stio stuff for the past few years. I wanted it to be insulated and full Gore-Tex. The Doublecharge does it all. Kept me warm in subzero weather in Northern Vermont this year (2025). I bought the Doublecharge insulted pants as well. So far, it's done its job and then some. I'm looking forward to using the outfit in Colorado next week.
I have been looking for a cold day insulated alpine ski jacket for a while. The Doublecharge has a the features I like including double action front zipper, sleeve cuffs with thumb slots, lots of functional pockets, pit vents and powder gaitor. Kept me warm on cold days and stylish for around town. I bought a large and it fits well.
This is a really nice jacket and had everything that I wanted in a resort skiing jacket except……. the fit is quite boxy in the torso and very long especially in the back. I hated to send it back. I would have swapped for a medium, but the arm length was good in the large and I am sure the medium would be too short. Oh well…
Worn the jacket in frigid temperatures with the Stio fleece as a layer underneath (wind chill below zero) and it kept me warm. The fit & feel is excellent, and the pockets are the perfect size. Wrist straps are fantastic. Very pleased with this purchase; the best and most comfortable Winter jacket I have owned. A+
This is my second Doublecharge jacket. I had my first for 3 seasons. I am primarily a resort skier and it has kept me warm and comfortable. I ski around 60 days per season and it has been very durable. The main reason for replacing my old Doublecharge was it was beginning to show sun fading on the shoulders.
Very comfortable. I wish it had one more set of pockets to store things for days on the slopes. Sleeves are a little long and getting the straps to tighten the openings at the wrist to shorten the length is not perfect. But I love the look and feel otherwise. Nice color - a purple grey look.
Like the coat. My only complaint is the front chest pocket. I typically keep my phone in that pocket when snowboarding. Unfortunately, due to design of the pocket the zipper gets stuck in the material most of the time. Very annoying and tedious to work the zipper off the material.
