Nice but snug

I recently bought the Mantle Pants in a size 32 (that is what my waist measures) and have some impressions. There is plenty of room in the waist (nice!) as well as the thighs, and the lower legs taper, however, the seat is pretty snug. In fact, it is difficult to high step in these and do squats. Despite what numerous reviews have said, the “touch of stretch” is minimal. My blue jeans have more flex and room to high step. I wanted these pants for rock climbing, but the snug-butt tailoring and stiff fabric are real drawbacks. Maybe after a few washings they will break in. On the plus side, the material seems quite sturdy and they look nice. They will be perfect for spectating at the odd football match or standing at the bar.

Odd Fit

I bought a size 32 in the Mantle Pants. That's my waist size. These pants have plenty of room in the waist (nice) and thighs, however, there's not much room in the seat unless all you're doing is standing around. Contrary to what other reviewers wrote, I found the "touch of stretch" to be minimal. My blue jeans have more flex and more room to high step. On the plus side, the material feels sturdy. I wanted to use these for climbing but they will work better watching the odd football match or standing at the bar.

Skinny legs only

My calfs don't fit in the skinny legs. I'm 6'4", 195 lbs, not husky, but not stick-thin. Bought 34 waist, the upper part is fine, if not a tad baggy. The legs have several stitched hems to intentionally make them skinnier, it's weird and uncomfortable. Overall the fabric is nice. I'm used to an open cell phone pocket in the side, like Carhartt or Duluth. This one has a side stash zip pocket, which I guess is cool if you're climbing/bouldering in them.

good trousers

The sizing and fit are pretty spot on. The stretch makes them a very reasonable climbing trouser that looks good in town or at work too. What more can the climbing borgeoisie ask for, apart from social or environmental justice bonus points (I don’t know if these get those points; they very well might)? I haven’t had them long enough to see what the durability is like. I’ll watch with interest.

New favorite pants

I'm a find-a-pair-I-like-and-buy-every-color kind of guy. After being disappointed by fabric and fit changes in my previous favorites by other manufacturers, I began a new search and found these. The gusset is a little small, but sufficiently opens things up. The thigh zipper pocket is perfect in size and placement. I'm satisfied with the 2 front pockets, although I wouldn't mind an inner zipper pocket to keep keys secure while climbing. The 2 back pockets are also sufficient, though a closure would be nice on at least one of them also. If you have large calves, the cuffs might fit a little tight if you like to roll them up like I do. The fabric is a nice blend of cotton. Just enough synthetic fibers to add stretch while still feeling like real clothes rather than wearing a repurposed parachute. They fit great under my harness and look nice just to wear also. These are definitely my new go-to pant.

Pretty good pants

They'll fit good if you're slim. I have an athletic build and being a 32 waist I bought 34 and it was the right call. My legs wouldn't have fit if I bought the 32. I had the waist reduced to a 32 and now they fit perfect. They're a little warm for me but I live in a very hot city near the equator. I'd assume they'd be fine anywhere in North America or Europe in Fall or Spring.

Great for climbing indoors and outdoors

Good quality material that will protect your leg from scratches. The construction of the pant stretches well while climbing and provides ample movement. A little bit tight on the waist area. Pockets are also good.

Stretchy and Tough!

So far these pants have stood up to some rough treatment and still look/feel great. I’m not a huge fan of the tiny, secret right thigh pocket that BD hides on a lot of its pants, but I’ll overlook :p Definitely techy and durable, but still would look great out on the town. Normally wear a 32 and these fit great (with room for thicker thighs).

Almost

I really wanted to like these pants. I liked the fabric, the weight, the pocket-arrangement. But the high cut and very pronounced taper made them an awkward fit on me. The high rise also made the front pockets, opening towards the top rather than the side, uncomfortable to put my hands in. Bummer. Returned them.

They work well

I've been wearing them almost everyday for a week and I love them. They're super durable and the gusseted crotch and articulated knees are my favorite features. Probably going to buy another pair. I don't think they would be my first choice for climbing pants, but thats not what I bought them for anyways.
