Good riding bag, better than what I had.
The bullet points version of my review. Purchased with a dividend to replace a worn out pack. Price point met modern features. :p Online images make the bottom appear *very* slim and tapered. It looks a lot better in reality. That pattern has grown on me. I had concerns about the longevity of materials used, for example the mesh netting and a loose thread or two. But after a few months of my.. involved riding style it isn’t an issue. Extra points for the way it keeps its contents distributed along my back, making the mass manageable. Use cases: ATL Beltline, Trips to MTB parks. Would I re-buy this if I needed to? Yes.
Thanks, Rats!
Over the winter, rats got into my garage and ate hundreds of dollars of hydration stuff including a Camelback Mule and an Patagonia Nine Trails pack, times two each. My husband and I both had to get new packs for mountain bike rides. After doing a quick search and locating our REI dividend check, we decided on these. We each have about 8 hours on them, and they are by far the best either of us has ever owned. Why? Well, I'll start with the bladder itself. It has dividers like an air mattress that flatten out the water. Genius. So simple, yet not a feature in other bladders. The magnetic clip and the magnetic hose holder piece are excellent. No more bouncing hose. The outer compartment for helmets (we keep ours on our heads) is also great for a jacket, gloves, sandwich, or whatever else you want to quickly stuff in there. If you cinch down the straps it won't come out. The inner zipped pocket is great for some cash and a car key, and the rest of the inner pocket is slim, but will easily carry the large smart phone and more clothing or snacks, a tube and pump, or whatever else you might need for a long foray into the mountains. I am 5'2" with a short torso, yet this pack tightens down just fine for me. My husband is 5'7" and it's a great fit for him too. I can't speak to anyone larger, but I imagine it would start to get a little tight for some, but I don't know. The pack is distributed with the bulk up on the shoulder blades and it fits close at the bottom, which means it becomes part of your back and moves with you, rather than against you. No chafing, moving, or weight issues. It's light, it has everything you need with much less bulk than any of the other packs we used to have. Lastly, at this price, it out performs many more expensive packs I've tried. I'd buy it again, but I hope the rat problem has been taken care of.
Holds up to dirt bike riding abuse
I have used this product for 2 years now to carry water and a small set of tools for dirt bike riding. I have taken multiple falls onto the backpack and there are no tears and the water bladder has no leaks. The phone pocket at the top is a great place to stash a phone and the lower mesh pocket on the interior is helpful for keys. I stash a small tool pack in the main pocket and sometimes carry a jacket with the straps on the exterior. The 85oz water capacity has never left me wanting for water even on 25+ mile trail rides and 8+ mile hikes. Overall this is a very well made and very useful product and the lifetime warranty makes it preferable to a similar product by Camelbak. I am finally looking to replace the water bladder (I don't have any issues with the water bladder but it is 2 years old) and my only complaint is that a new bladder costs ~$40 which I think is a bit much.
Extremely high quality and very functional
This backpack is by far the best option for mountain biking backpacks. Its design is great, with a good water tight and easy to use bladder, and it has plenty of space inside to hold all of your snacks, biking tools, phone, extra layers, or anything else you might have on a mountain biking ride. The materials used are high quality and durable. There aren't any compromises in the small things either, like the helmet holder piece, which is very useful, and the magnet to hold the mouthpiece on your chest is also nice. I highly recommend this product.
Mountain bike
Perfect size for shorter rides. To small to fit 2 cans of beer though.
Perfect for outdoors
Wear it most of the time mountain biking but also great at the beach.
Good for commuting too
This little bag works great for "ultralight commuting." A 10" chromebook/tablet fits perfectly in the bladder pocket (without the bladder, of course) and is well protected by the stiff back. My tupperware lunch fits in the main pocket, extra gloves and a small thermus stuff great in the external pocket, and when I get to where I need my helmet cinches to the outside. Bought it for the hiking and trail riding (which it's great for), love it for the extra stuff I use it for.
Great hydration pack for cycling.
Great hydration pack for cycling. Has just enough storage for my tools, phone, keys and a lightweight jacket/shell. Very durable and decent ventilation on my back. Stays secure while on more challenging trails.
TLDR: Very comfy, easy to
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] TLDR: Very comfy, easy to organize. Worth buying. I’m picky. It’s an awesome day pack that helps you store all the essentials and nothing more in the best way possible. I absolutely love the keychain holder as it makes hours of searching for keys a thing of the past. Wearing the Siskin honestly felt like wearing nothing at all to me at least. The straps and back are very comfortable for hours of riding. There is one thing I was not the biggest fan of however. I don’t like the straps holding the shove-it pocket in place. It makes reaching for tools and other stuff in the lower compartments in the zippered portion a hassle to get to. I kind of wish the straps were on the flap itself so they didn’t have to be in the way. If the straps had to be out that wide to make the straps usable, I think a good experiment for the development team to try is to design the Siskin with the side walls on the flap part instead of the back of the pack. It may not look as sleek that way, but I figured it might be worthwhile thinking about. In the meantime, I think I will survive with getting used to it as the shove-it pocket has saved me a couple of times because I’ve forgotten to account for a couple extra items before. In conclusion, the Siskin 8 has become my edc cycling pack no matter the type of riding the day has in store for me. The storage compartments make it easy to organize and its great for carrying everyday essentials on the trail. Given the opportunity to start over my purchase, I’d still buy the Siskin 8.
Recommended for cycling and likely skiing
Worked brilliantly for the longer rides I have been going on north of 50miles. Holds all the now COVID essentials and the pack has plenty of capacity for hot weather or days of tough climbing. It did not absorb a noticable amount of sweat while riding which was nice and a real improvement over pack hydration backpacks. Also planning to use this for skiing this year because of the COVID restrictions for water and this will have good space for extra masks, sanitizer and a place to store gloves.
