I'm size 10 and bought the 12 and it doesn't drown me. Good sleeve length (velcro gives freedom to pull sleeves up if you're getting your hands wet) and feels like a dry coat when I wear it with just gym shorts and vest when I got to the gym in the early mornings keeping me toasty. I even wore it over the top of my summer motorcycle jacket and rode at 70mph in 10 degrees and I stayed WARM! Great roomy pockets, good zips, cosey hood. I absolutely love this jacket, cheers design team! The velvet chin guards are a sweet lil touch too. Another triumph!
It sometimes feels like most doen jackets on the market were invented for snowy and crisp conditions like you'd get in North America or the Alps, and less so for wet and cold weather, which we do so well in Britain. This jacket fills that niche perfectly. It doesn't wet out like a standard down jacket and is the most cozy jacket I own. It feels sturdy and well made. Perfect for wearing around or below the freezing mark. It's surprisingly breathable/non-sweaty. i'm really happy with it and would buy one again, though I doubt I'll need to anytime soon (which is just as well given the understandable price point). PS. I tried the long version, but it fit too narrow over the hips for me (a muscly 5'7/size 10). The regular length fits like a glove.

Hint hint, I'd love to see this jacket in neon mauve ;)
Fantastic jacket, ticks all the boxes - at the moment, However, I am a bit concerned as I had one previously and twice was let down by the zip which failed - the first time Rab replaced the jacket, the second time I had had it two years so have just replaced the jacket with this one. Is the zip always a problem eventually? How long should I expect my new Rab jacket to last before the zip goes - or have you addressed the problem? I do wear the jacket regularly.....
I was looking to purchase a down jacket, then came across the Valiance which has the warmth of down but added waterproof shell for when you get caught in a shower. I’ve worn it 5 times this week and have been so snug and warm, the wind resistance is also noticeable. It feels like it is more robust and durable than a down coat. The hood adjustment works well and I like the peak. The jacket is also lightweight. Overall, just superb!
Love the warmth and weight. I was however disappointed with the outer material. Few walks on coastal paths, jacket stood up to the weather. Got back only to discover a small tear on the front. I thought it would be a better quality. I am sending Jacket to Rab to be repaired as the jacket was only purchased in October. On the whole
I bought this for my wife and she really likes it. So much so that my daughter now has one as well. Warm, comfortable and you don't have to worry about showers of rain. Their one other comment was that there could have been a better selection of brighter colours as with a lot of your other insulated jackets.
I’ve had my valiance jacket for a few years now and I absolutely love it. I bought it to use on mountains in the winter but have ended up wearing it all winter for everything! Warm and waterproof, but you don’t overheat like you would in a synthetic jacket. Also a nice shape and style. Well worth the money
Nice fit, warm and waterproof. Hood is good, but unfortunately every time you move it sounds like someone is rustling crisp packets against your ears - surely this problem could be easily resolved? A few minor improvements and this jacket would be superb instead of just good.
This coat is amazing! I have worn it in the most horrendous winter conditions in the Lake District and it has never let me down. It has kept me snug and dry and it packs down really small for stowing in your rucksack. By far my favourite winter coat.
