Perfect for commute and travel
I love the dual functionality of tote and backpack, as I use this on public transit and like to wear it as a tote, but for my longer walks the transition to backpack is amazing. It will also be a good travel bag for lighter trips. The pros: great material, lightweight, can fit a fair amount of stuff inside, comfortable straps, love the outside bottle pockets and outer pockets. It looks nice enough to take to work but won't make me look like an overdressed fool when I wear it traveling or in the field. I was searching high and low for a work bag I could take with me traveling and the size and luggage strap will be perfect. There are a few things that could be improved: I really wish there was some structure at the bottom of the bag so it doesn't look so lumpy when I have stuff in it, and also feel that would make it sturdier and would stand up on its own. I also wish there was a little more padding for the laptop sleeve, I do not feel comfortable putting my laptop in there naked, and have to cram my own sleeve in there as well-luckily it fits! One more pocket on the inside would help as well.
I love this pack. The
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this pack. The entire reason I was drawn to it was the fact that it could be either a backpack or transform to a tote when needed. I absolutely love the amount of space it has and the seperate compartments as well as the front zipper pocket. I use it pretty much for everything: day trips, class, or just every day carrying things to and from somewhere. You won’t regret this one.
My work pack and I love it
Love this bag a lot. Super versatile, needed it to clean up my normal on the go work and living essentials. However when a client was doing weight vest training, I threw the rest of the sand bags into the largest compartment and wore it for 4 miles of country hills. No issues.
Great everyday bag
Really great bag. It holds my laptop with plenty of room for extras. I love the water bottle pockets and the outer pockets for small items. My only suggestions would be: 1. to have the two over-the-shoulder straps a smidge longer as I can’t quite get my bent arm through once and get the straps up to my shoulder and have to use my other hand to hold the loops and put my other arm straight through then up on my shoulder (of course, everyone has different length arms). 2. A small mesh elastic pocket on the inside along the side of the bag (like an inside water bottle pocket) to tuck a laptop cord. As it is now, my cord just gets stuffed down with my laptop and I would prefer a small compartment for it. Otherwise, a well-thought-out, functional bag!
Great bag
I really like this bag. I use it to carry my laptop and other essentials. It is “dressier” than a standard day pack and holds a lot. It was thoughtfully designed with many features I really like: it can be carried multiple ways—and whichever straps you’re not using stow out of sight; has a sleeve to slip over a roll bag handle; and has a pocket on the outside on both sides—handy for water bottle and any other easy-to-access items. Great carryon. Color is lovely!
I've been using my Daylite
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using my Daylite totepack for about two months now and it's working well for my needs (work bag for university teaching). Before, I was using a ~25L Pacsafe backpack that felt like too much bag for what I typically carry. I like the Daylite's streamlined appearance (other than dangling straps), robust enough backpack straps, sternum strap, long enough tote handles to carry on your shoulder, and zippered outer pocket. It's also pretty quick to convert between the backpack and tote setups. I wish it had a bigger key attachment on a longer "leash." The little red one is on a very short strap, so you can't pull it out of the bag--you have to reach inside the bag to clip keys onto it. That's especially awkward since the clip itself is so small and the plastic doesn't seem very sturdy. As I switch back and forth between my home and office keys at least twice per day, that's not very convenient. Lastly, a keychain weighs down the divider between the laptop compartment and the rest of the bag, so it's difficult to reach into the main part of the bag when keys are attached. Secondly, the wave blue turned out to be significantly lighter than I was expecting based on the picture on the website.
Really like this for day hiking
This was purchased so hubby and I could take turns carrying it on short day trips. We used it this week for hiking at Stone Mountain state park in NC. It's not perfect. It could use more padding on the shoulders for me and some ventilation on the back for him. Also, a bungee on the water bottle pockets would be nice. Despite those wish list items, we really liked the tote and enjoyed using it. The umber orange is cheery without standing out too much. Also, it's good to know we don't have to worry about the straps tearing.
Good convertible bag, but cannot stand on its own.
While I really do like this bag, and they way it can convert from hand carry to back carry, it could have been perfect if the bottom of the bag was flat, and not designed at an angle. I use this bag as a personal item while flying, and while it fits great lying flat under your seat, any other time I try to put down the tote (say in a hotel room, or while outside), it flops onto its back onto the dirty ground! The bag has two great pockets for your water bottle, but even that gets negated for me when I put the pack down, and out spills my water. The bag works better as a mini daypack (or laptop bag), but at that point, there's tons better options in terms of comfort and space to choose from. Knowing that, I would still recommend this bag if you get a nice deal for it.
Photo showing one shoulder carry is misleading.
I reviewed the Daylite Tote/Backpack as Gram2CJBBA, and complained about the length of the tote straps. I'm petite, 5'3"" and weigh 112. While I could put the pack over one shoulder, it was snug enough to my armpit that It would not have been comfortable. For a larger, or even average sized woman and certainly for a man, over one shoulder carry isn't a reasonable option. A real score if you'd just made the straps longer. Poor design. The photo is misleading. Only a child might comfortably carry it that way.
BEST BACKPACK EVER (college edition)
I bought this bag as a replacement for my everyday backpack, and I'm so glad I did. Moving from a regular school bag to this take some adjustment, the straps are a lot skinnier than other bags, but the adjustment period didn't take long. It carries everything I need and has a large laptop sleeve that is big enough for other devices (I often carry my Macbook Air and my iPad with no problem). The only complaint I have are the tote straps. I wish they had pockets or something that you could put them in when they're not in use. I've gotten used to it, but I wish they weren't so in the way sometimes. I've also used the bag for travel and day hikes, and the transition is really simple and low maintenance. It's also easy to clean, which is a plus for a clutz like myself. Highly recommend!
