I got the opportunity to test out the Long and Wide version of the REI Campwell 30 Sleeping bag. It’s perfect for curbside camping or “glamping”. The bag itself is well made, with quality materials and durable zippers. I also really enjoy the color. The size of the bag could be seen as a positive or negative. It’s big, doesn’t come with a true compression sack and not suitable for backpacking. However personally I love the oversized nature of the sleeping bag. For me it fits perfectly in the realm of those not worried about size or weight. The traditional style opposed to mummy suits the sleeping bag well. it can be unzipped and function as a blanket. Great for a family camping trip!!
I absolutely love this bag for car camping for colder temperature (but above freezing!). It’s soft, high quality material, and provides a good amount of space and warmth. I also have used it unzipped and thrown over myself and my husband like a blanket which works very well. Easy to roll up and fit back in the sack. Compact enough to not take up too much space in the car. The teal color is also fantastic!
This is a great, high quality sleeping bag for just about any general use. It's my daughter's go to for sleepovers and I use it as my main source of bedding on chartered fishing trips down in the bunks. It's soft and keeps me warm throughout the the chilly nights and/or mornings without the use of a sleeping bag. What I particularly like about the sleeping bag are the dual sets of zippers that allows me to zip up to my chin while unzipping down towards my feet to allow a little bit of airflow which helps prevent overheating. The zippers are also of very nice quality and do not snag on any of the surrounding fabric when zipping/unzipping. I do wish that the sleeping bag had some integrated ties/straps towards the feet to secure the sleeping bag when rolled up to put back into the sack since this would make it a lot easier to put into the sack but it's not a big deal since I've relegated to just stuffing the bag into the sack instead which is fine. Overall, I'm happy with this product and would recommend it.
I'm a side sleeper, and if you are one too mummy bags can be a pain. I always like using a regular sleeping bag so I don't feel as though I'm stuck in one position all night. The Campbell works great, it is large enough to be comfy yet warmer than it's 30 degree rating would indicate. The only downside is that it is a bit bulky and heavy, so great for car camping and everyday life but may not be the most ideal solution for backpacking trips (unless you are firmly committed to that side sleeping life).
I slept very well in this bag. So far I’ve used it both in my car on a 30F night and in my house on a 58F night. For both nights I stayed plenty warm. On the 30F night, I wore some wool layers and a hat, but still felt fine. On the 60F night I slept with it unzipped so I didn’t overheat. The materials seem decent and the zipper has worked fine for me. The inside material is a comfy soft fabric and I didn’t find the bag was noisy when I moved around as I have with some other bags. The downsides of this bag include its weight and size. I wouldn’t use this for backpacking and I found it kind of difficult to fit the bag back in the stuff sack. But for a car camping trip or using it inside the home when guests stay over I found this to be a very solid sleeping bag.
Not every trip is a backpacking trip, and sometimes you just need a well made, basic summer/travel/car camping bag - because my regular bag can get TOO hot and is quite delicate. I took the Campwell 30 for a test run under the stars on a dry mid-30’s night and stayed perfectly warm (and cozy). This is a classic bag without any big bells and whistles, except some convenient sizing - I got the extra long regular width one for my tweenage son who is growing by the minute. Less features also means there are fewer things to potentially break. Its square design lets you unzip it all the way to use as a blanket, and the two zippers give you options for ventilation. This one doesn’t squish up small by any means, but that wasn’t what I was looking for.
A basic car-camping sleeping bag that ticks all the boxes.
