Great hiking shoes, and tho I haven't submerged them purposely to see their Gore tex prove themselves, I haven't gotten my feet wet when going thru puddles (I have scrubbed them clean and they haven't soaked thru)! When reading the reviews prior to ordering, people had complained about the lace loopholes breaking, but mine haven't at all! The only downside so far is that they get scuffed and markedup ... but I guess that proves I've done some good hikes! Main reason I bought them is for my next humanitarian trip, as my last trip included downpours and getting soaked feet. Breaking them in and hoping they'll still be good for going overseas!
I use these shoes for all things - hiking, travelling, and everyday wear. While they're nice and comfy, they absolutely do not have the durability that one would hope for given their price point. They started to come apart within the first two months of wearing them, especially around the laces. It has been about 2 years of wear now and the loops for the laces at the top are about to detach from the body of both shoes. I'm not one to throw out shoes prematurely, especially not expensive ones, so I'm trying to wear them until they die, but come on. This is really not up to snuff for shoes of a brand that is regarded for its high-quality products. I would spend money elsewhere if you are looking for good hardworking shoes.
I ordered these as a transition piece between a hiking shoe and boot. They're very lightweight and comfortable on long day hikes. I love how I can step into muddy puddles without worrying that my socks will get wet! I would recommend trying them on in store before purchasing because they do run quite large. I am normally a 7/7.5 in other athletic shoe brands, but ended up with a 6.5 Women's in these shoes.
I've had these shoes for about a year now. On the one hand, they're agile, great for scrambling, and quite comfortable (except for the toe box, which I think could be just a couple of mm wider to keep it from rubbing my big toe). They lock my heels in, which very few shoes do. And they're breathable, which is something that's almost impossible to find in hiking boots available today. On the other hand, the upper is not very durable (it's developing some small holes), and I don't understand why they're only available in black. I mean, sure, it looks snazzy, but it makes the shoes heat up more in the sun, which partially negates the benefits of making them breathable, and increases the risk of blisters. With just a few tiny tweaks (more big toe space, more durable upper material, more color selection, and while I'm at it just slightly deeper lugs would be great) this would be my dream hiking boot. Oh, and also, it runs a half-size large. All in all, I know this isn't the most popular boot, but I really hope arc'teryx will just fix these issues instead of discontinuing it.
