I bought this proton hoodie for cold-weather hikes in the Pacific Northwest. I am so glad that I did! It’s light and breathable yet keeps me warm and my temperatures regulated. You can easily layer underneath it and over it if necessary.
I got my Proton mid session last year and it has been my new go to layer. From dog walks, to touring it is breathable, durable and so comfortable. The outer pocket is really handy. I got a large so it was a bit looser for my beacon and I just cinch it at the bottom if I want it tighter. I use it as a technical piece and day to day.
Haven't worn the jacket for any active pursuits yet, so I can't speak to how well it performs, but it seems to be high quality and nicely designed. My two complaints are the meager color options (I ended up with the bright orange, which has a construction zone feel, but is better than black or gray) and that it's a little too long. It's very comfortable and seems like it'll provide the level of warmth I was looking for (as a midlayer in cold conditions, outer layer in more mild conditions, or outer when doing doing a high intensity activity in cold conditions). Wish it packed down a bit smaller and wish it was designed to stuff into a pocket. But otherwise I'm happy with it.
One of my favourite and most practical Arc'teryx products I own. The synthetic insulation of this jacket is warm but very breathable. During high output activity the sweat is transported to the exterior layer keeping the interior warm and dry. If the outer layer gets wet on a snowy tour it dries very quickly and the jacket never feels wet. If you were to own one Arc'teryx item this one should be it!
This piece goes just about everywhere with me during winter activities. From XC skiing to the resort, snowshoeing to walking to work the proton helps keep my temperature under control with just the right warmth to ventilation ratio. I run hot so I reach for this piece over an atom for higher output activities that need more venting capability.
Amazing jacket. I wore this during the ski season non-stop. Great breathability, soft material, and really comfy.
After wearing my Atom LT (original) for 7 years, I decided it was time for a new one. Based on reviews I opted to try the Proton without trying it on. Similar to the Atom in feel and look, the fit is not as I expected. The sleeves are much longer; the body is also much longer with a flair at the hem; and the mid body is fairly roomer - not a close, “flattering” fit like the Atom. I bought this in a small based on my Atom and size guide. While I am keeping the jacket to try it out through the winter, I will most likely revert back to the Atom line in the future.
I bought this two years ago and have put it through everything! I absolutely love the fit, weight, warmth, color, and durability of this jacket. I work for the ski patrol and wear this all winter skiing. An everyday layer. The synthetic layer is perfect for work, I love that the neck zips high for my chin but doesn’t scratch it. I got a small rip but it has really held up wonderfully after all I put it through. I want that green color. Would recommend 12/10! On cold days I can wear it under the Nuclei and the combo is the best in the biz. Worth every penny!
This is the second proton hoody that I own and I cannot reccomend them enough! These are made to take on the backcountry and excel- I have gotten rid of every other jacket and replaced with this. This is breathable and tough to take on the backcountry. It is water resistant and water pellets fall right off of it. I love how high the neck line comes, I do not need to use a buff when I have this. I use this by itself for touring up the skin track and place a shell on for the decent. It is wonderful! If you run warm, you only need a tshirt under, it is warm!
Really wanted to love this jacket as a mid-layer and occasional outer layer for walking around town but the fit is off for my 5’9” 130 pound body. I ordered a small and the body is slightly short on me (I could see myself pulling it down all the time) and the body flares out slightly at the waist which looks weird. I wanted to wear this as an occasional outer layer so the fit was a deal breaker for me. Otherwise it’s very warm for its weight and shorter people might love it.
