Sizing Notes

Please note, this sizing chart is meant to serve only as a guideline.

Sizing downhill poles: Stand in your ski boots on a level floor. With your poles upside down—grips touching the floor—grab the pole beneath the basket so that the top of your thumb touches the basket. Your elbow should now be at a 90-degree angle. If the angle is less than 90 degrees, get a shorter pole. If the angle is greater, get a longer pole.

Sizing XC poles: Stand in your XC ski boots on a level floor. Place the pole tips on the floor next to your feet. The top of the grips should reach your arm pits.

Sizing skate poles: Stand in your skate boots on a level floor. Place pole tips on the ground with the pole shafts perpendicular to the floor. The poles should reach from the ground up to a point somewhere between your chin and your lips.

Great for snowshoeing, good for backcountry skiing

Overall these are solid backcountry poles with a few small drawbacks. The positive aspects of these poles is that they are sturdy when skiing downhill. Often times I have found two piece poles to not be as sturdy and to have a lot of vibration when skiing aggressively and planting the pole. When planting these poles they feel as sturdy as one piece poles and the FlintLock mechanism seems to hold securely. Similarly when snowshoeing or skinning uphill the 18mm 7075 aluminum and FlintLock mechanism are sturdy when planted and as a bigger heavier guy this is an important consideration. The poles have a large variation in length when adjusted. They can go from about 5 feet (155 cm) to 3 and a half feet in length. This is especially helpful when I was snowshoeing with the poles. Even as a tall person (6’5”) I would never need a 5 foot pole while simply skiing, however when on the descent with snow shoes the extra length was useful in giving added stability especially when traveling through some dense pine forests in deep snow. The baskets are well sized and removable, I found in waist deep powder that the baskets would compress the snow quickly and provide a solid base of stability. When assessing the ergonomic rubber grip I found it felt solid in my hand and in the sense that I never noticed it, that is a positive. The wrist straps are very easy to adjust and stay fastened, although I must admit I rarely use the straps when skiing. The integrated PH3 screwdriver and a 1.5mm hex is attached to the bottom part of the pole. This is a nice feature to incorporate because when the FlintLock inevitably loosens the hex key is incredibly small and it would be fairly annoying to carry around the world’s tiniest allen wrench in your pocket and always remember to bring it. However these poles are not perfect and there are some reasons why they did not earn a 5th star. The first is that although they are adjustable they do not pack down to a small enough size to be easily packed or carried. If you are splitboarding this will be a problem unless you want to descend carrying the poles. Snowshoeing or skiing this is not really an issue as you’ll have the poles in your hand the entire time. Traveling could also be an issue as they would not be able to fit in a normal size duffel bag like a 3 piece pole might. However if you are traveling for skiing this is likely a non issue as you’ll have an oversized ski bag anyway. Another drawback is the FlintLock mechanism. When starting the day sitting in your warm car it is easy enough to engage, however after a long day in the cold and deep snow I found it getting jammed up easily if I was trying to adjust it in the field. The integrated PH3 screwdriver and a 1.5mm hex stored in the pole is nice, especially since the adjustment bolt on the FlintLock is tiny and you’d need a special allen wrench for it. But because it is so tiny, adjustments are very difficult with gloves on in the field. On a nice bluebird day that might not be an issue, but when it gets cold or the wind picks up this can get very annoying. Another advertised feature that was fine but did not blow me away was the flat edge on the grip head for clearing snow from skis. On the positive side it was quite nice to have a flat edge instead of the typical curved one found on most poles, so if snow gets packed onto your skis this is a nice tool to remove it. However it is still quite small and requires a fair bit of time to remove all the snow if your skis are fully covered. The poles advertise 10cm, 20cm and 30cm markings starting at the grip top for quick snow-depth measurements, which is indeed a nice feature once you figure out where the marks are. The markings are indented in black into the rubber handle of the pole with no color differentiation to easily spot them. Confusingly the 10cm mark is the second line from the end of one section, the 20 cm is the first line of the next section and the 30cm mark is not a line at all but the end of the rubber section. It took me a lot longer than it should have to even find the markings although once you are used to where they are it is a lot easier to use. The poles are advertised as 300 grams which is roughly 10 and a half ounces. This is quite handy when in the backcountry and every ounce matters. It puts it in the high end category of being lightweight. Since the poles are aluminum they are more likely to bend instead of break compared to similarly lightweight carbon poles upon impact. Although I have been fortunate enough not to crash when testing these out so I can confirm on well the FlintLock would hold up to my entire body weight landing on it. Hopefully I never find out, but knowing me, I probably will eventually. Overall I rate these great for snowshoeing, good for backcountry skiing, unnecessary but good for resort skiing and not ideal for splitboarding or traveling.

Top ski poles for all mountain skiing

Great ski poles for both backcountry touring and resort. They are lightweight, adjustable and colorful. Flicklock is reliable and sturdy which holds the length you're using while skiing. Bonus - the tension can be adjusted too. The poles have a PH3 screwdriver bit and 1.5mm hex, which is a cool thought-out design. The flat edge on the grip head is long enough to engage heal riser on your bindings effortlessly as well as to clear snow from skis or boots. Overall, love these poles which are my new go to for all mountain skiing.

Versatile poles for a variety of activities

Winter has been a bit off and on so far in my area, so at this point I've only used these poles for Nordic skiing, but I'm looking forward to continuing to put them through their paces as the snow improves and I can use all of my other fun winter toys. I think they will be great for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing in addition to Nordic. I especially appreciate the inclusion of the tools within the pole shaft, as I have one pair of BC touring skis that has had me stopped on trail in years past, digging through my backpack for my multi-tool to tighten a screw that has a tendency to wiggle loose sometimes. It should be very handy to have a screwdriver hidden within my pole to handle a situation like that without needing to take my backpack off. I've also been out on a cold and snowy day, the type of day that sometimes causes poles to become tricky to adjust for most-comfortable height for climbs versus descents. The locking mechanism on these has been easy to operate without needing to take off my gloves, and didn't show any sign of being difficult to adjust despite temperatures at the freezing mark and wet snow falling. The lock also seems solid once in place with no sign of shifting height when weighted. All-in-all a very good pair of poles and very versatile for different winter sports.

Reliable Performance

I’ve been using the Traverse Pro Ski Poles for backcountry touring, and they’ve proven to be exceptionally reliable. The build quality is solid — lightweight yet durable enough to handle rough terrain and variable conditions. The adjustable length locks securely without slipping, and the extended foam grips offer excellent control on steep climbs. After multiple trips in demanding environments, these poles have held up without issue. Highly recommended for anyone needing dependable gear in the backcountry.

Highly Recommended One Quiver Ski Pole

Highly recommend these poles for the skier who splits their time 50/50 between the resort and backcountry. They're durable enough to handle the throttle of consistent black diamond downhill skiing but also light enough for ski mountaineering. I especially love the snow depth measurement tool on the top of the pole. It helps with assessing snow when I've dug pits this season. For longer and more intense days, I've been using the Black Diamond Whippet Poles as they are lighter and have the option of a whippet attachment. However, I think this is the one quiver tool of a ski pole. It is also a beautiful pole - super stylish! If you need a new pair of poles this season, don't look any further.

Perfect poles!

These are the best ski poles I have used! Well designed and constructed. The quick release is easy to use and adjust. No slips when secured down. The tools on the inside end of each pole is great benefit. The straps work well and are adjustable. Very comfortable grips. Poles feel solid when planting. The only minor issue is that they are slightly heavy and at high speeds I can feel wind resistance against them.

Solid Poles

They feel a little heavy, but they're definitely solid with well thought out features. The snow depth markings are a bit hard to read, but once you know where they are, it's easy to measure depth. Mostly don't notice them when skinning or skiing which is a good thing. Came from some carbon ones (another brand) that randomly snapped while pole planting. Glad I got these.

Sturdy Poles + Extended Grips - Defective Baskets

Poles were just delivered so haven't used them yet. The extended grips will come in handy and 18mm feels sturdier than old 16mm poles. Unfortunately, threads on both baskets are defective - could only manage to get one on securely.

Hâte de les essayer !

À préavis, pôles semblent de bonnes qualités. Le mécanisme d'ajustement de la longueur semble durable et facile à ajuster. Sous poignée a une bonne rigidité. Ganses s'ajustent facilement. On attend la pow pour les essayer !
