Favorite Car Camping Option
LOVE this stove. The Piezo igniter on one of the burners got a little far away from the burner during transit (likely what happened in some of the other reviews) but I was able to re-adjust it and now it works like a charm. We Korean BBQ with this stove at the campsite and in the backyard (I love the the lid comes off and can be used as a trivet). Plus the different burners allow for the best cooking option.
Great stove to play camp chef with!
This is a sweet stove. It looks slick and outperforms my expectations. The different flame options are good for when I'm boiling water for pasta or simmering rice. Being able to remove the lid is awesome when it's not windy. The big bonus for me is the removeable drip tray. I just throw the thing in the dishwasher when I get home. I'm pretty proud of my setup honestly. I run a 2 gallon propane tank through a distributor that allows me to split the fuel between my Alika stove, my Kuchoma grill, and my Micron lantern. Big fan of Primus products
Fast pasta cooker
Fast pasta cooker. The extra powerful burner boils water fast. Time saver when eating late after a day of adventure. The low profile makes it easy to pack around the car and camp. While in Yosemite they were all out of propane canisters but they had butane canisters at the store. I was able to convert my stove to burn butane with the supplied adapter.
Gave up
I tried buying this twice - the first time neither igniter worked. The second time one of them worked. An improvement i suppose but I wasn’t willing to try a third time so just ordered a Camp Chef Everest 2x from another vendor. Hopefully I’ll have better luck with that. Too bad because I really wanted that 13k btu burner…
Great stove for the camp chef
This stove is beautiful. The removable lid is amazing. It makes it so you can fit larger pots and pans. The burners are powerful but also have great flame control. Simmering is not a problem. The flexible fuel hose sure is nice . My stove also has the issue where the push ignition doesn't always ignite the burner. I was able to gently bend the spark piece and get them to work most of the time. I also don't mind using a lighter if needed. A very minor inconvenience.
New Piezo No Go.
Great design and features… if only it worked. Like two other reviewers, my Piezo igniters do not work. First time set up- no spark, no light. Sure, I could use a lighter, but for the high cost, I will return and get one that works right out of the box as claimed/designed.
Looks nice, but the igniter does not work
I tried everything, but I can’t get the igniter to start it up. Using a lighter works fine. Not worth it.
DOA
I liked the specs of the Alika enough to spend the extra money, thinking it would be a long-term, although more expensive, camping investment. Upon arrival, I was happy to find the attached tag that bore the signature of the Primus tester, assuring the stove had been checked for operation. I wanted to see the just how well the stove worked so I attached a propane cannister and... what a disappointment when the piezo-electric igniters wouldn't start a flame on either burner. I lit them both with a Scripto lighter and the flame on each burner is powerful, a plus over our old stove but not if they can't be started with their own system. I checked all the (less than instructive) instructions to find that the stove is intended for use with Primus cannisters (not available at REI) but the Coleman cannister used fit fine and the propane was getting to the burners, so... I removed the cover plate and carefully moved the igniters to be a bit further from the burner. Success! Both burners instantaneously ignited... until I returned the cover plate. With a little more adjustment, the large burner worked each time but the smaller burner had the spark jumping from the burner to the plate and even its insulator, only lighting the flame intermittently after many tries. I've written to Primus about the issue but haven't heard from them. At the recommendation of an REI associate, I'll be returning the stove tomorrow for a Coleman replacement. I'll do my own testing.
