Just had these a few weeks. They are the same size as my Quests, XA Ultra shoes, mids and boots. They are a half size smaller than my Hokas, Lowa running shoes and Saucony as well as Salomon running shoes. I bought them for winter walking, daily wear and light hiking through the cold and wet PNW weather. They are sturdy, stable and well cushioned, but there lighter weight options out there if you’re actually going to use them for hard use hiking. I can easily wear a mid weight sock with my normal size. I’m not a fan of the cinch laces used through the Salomon lineup and would prefer standard laces, but am a big fan of approach style, lace to toe.
I have 50 miles of hiking on these shoes. They are a well made approach/hiking shoe. I would definitely consider this an approach shoe because it has the stronger toe cap and the sole flex is very stiff. They have broken in over these 50 miles I've put on them on the trails and just day to day wear. Over all the shoe is exactly what I have come to expect from a Salomon hiker. Top notch quality. When it comes to fit, that is where these differ from other hikers I have had in the past. I will state I am a low volume foot (based on alpine touring ski boots and cycling shoes). The foot entry hole on my pair of Ultra Alpine X are larger than Salomon Ultra I have had in the past. And larger than Speedcross as well. Because of the size of the shoe entry and the stiffness of the sole, I got heel slippage, thus got blisters on the inside and outside of both left and right heels on my first 4 mile hike. This is the first time any Salomon had given me blisters straight out of the box. I have worn them with various thickness of socks, and I still have heel slippage. Salomon are my reliable shoes. I was disappointed, but also see what is happening. Ultimately this is a shoe that does not fit my foot well, and I am a low volume foot. I do believe a mid to high volume foot would work in these shoes with no issue. They design, style, and construction are top notch as I would expect from Salomon. I just will be looking for different models that best accommodate a low volume foot.
Honestly, first shoe I’ve bought from Salomon and it didn’t disappoint. I bought this shoe for winter and it didn’t disappoint, however, snow wise it’s pretty good (better than expected), slush wise also pretty good the slush doesn’t get inside the shoe and it’s pretty warm, ice wise (by having it used in a ice storm) it’s not the best still does its job but pretty slippery. Overall this shoe is a must for winter maybe the higher version would be even better but this version was pretty good it didn’t disappoint. Also I have wide feet, and they fit great I have room to move my feet and it doesn’t feel tight.
These are very nice. Don’t feel like a Solomon shoe. I don’t care for any of the other models. These are nice. At least a half size big. For me, 1 sized down a WHOLE size. They run long. Maybe even 1.5 too big. I may need to do a half size more, DOWN. I usually wear a 10. US. Went with a 9. I wear a 10 in almost everything. 10 Lowa 43-43.5 Sportiva TX4 43 Scarpa Zodiac 9.5-10 Asolo 10 Vans/Nike *For reference *
This is a great shoe in many ways. It is rugged, well built, and has very good features. I purchased these to do backpacking and scrambling as well as day hikes. The fit is the problem. They are narrow and short in my chosen size of 13. I am a true 13 D and these are sized about a 12 in length and are very narrow. I have worn them enough that they should have loosened up but they are a stiff shoe by design and have not conformed to my foot at all. I have been going wearing Salewa Wildfires and expected a snug fit but these are too extreme. To avoid jamming my toes, I really had to crank the laces on downhills to the point of being very uncomfortable, even yet, my toes jammed the end of the shoe. REI did not have the 14 available so I was not able to try that option. Salomon built a great shoe but really missed on sizing.
Bought this a bit over a month ago. Used them while trekking in Nepal. They take a bit of breaking in but once you do that they’re unbelievable. Incredibly grippy on most terrain. Waterproof and comfortable. However because they are waterproof they do tend to get a bit hot so probably not the best in hot weather. They’re tough as well, I kicked quite a few massive rocks on my walks and they survived without any scratches.
I bought my usual size of these, but they were very uncomfortable so returned and got a half size bigger. I've tried to 'wear them in' daily for 3 weeks now (so not returnable), but the truth is; they are just not very comfortable. The sides and insoles dig in, they rub around the ankles, and they are hard under foot. I usually get on fine with Salomon shoes. They do, however, look great.

I find this shoe to one of the better releases from Salomon in a long time. I’ve had/numerous versions of the 3D product and found the older releases to be more comfortable and fitting than the newer releases. I look forward to adding more of the Alpines to my collection if they prove out (and if the price comes down).
Absolutely love this shoe but had to send it back because it’s very small and narrow sizing - and I mean very small. It’s a pity they don’t state the sizing in the blurb. I love the shoe though, and will order size 10 once the other one has cleared checks.
Bought them put them on - a tight fit that will pack out some - then left to warmer spaces. Appear to be as good as all the other excellent Salomon shoes I’ve had over the years. Can’t wait to get back and prove myself correct.
