Disappointing

I cannot believe I paid $13 bucks for a sock that falls apart before you even use up one full ball of chalk. I thought it had fallen out or lost a part, but then I realized the whole thing had gone limp and dumped out. It's only good when it's stuffed full.

Make your own instead

It's... just a regular sock, twisted and then pulled back on itself. I ended up closing it with a rubber band in the middle so more chalk would come through the fabric, which I could have done with a regular sock.

Not worth the money

Like other reviews, it’s just a sock twisted and pulled over itself. Not worth the money. Chalk will just come out the twist if not tight. The application of chalk is silly too since it kinda just makes a cloud around you and you breathe it all in. Will be returning

Not perfect but by far my favorite chalk ball

There's a spectrum of how much chalk climbers like to use and I am on the low end of that spectrum. I definitely like having some chalk on my finger but I also greatly dislike having too much. I prefer to pull my hand out of my chalk bag with the right amount of chalk on my fingers already so that I don't have to blow off the excess. As a result chalk balls that close with a drawstring drive me crazy; there's always a little hole left and the chalk leaks out over time and slowly fills the bottom of my chalk bag. At some point it's like I'm just using loose chalk in my chalk bag and there's way too much chalk everywhere. With this chalk ball no chalk at all leaks out. I do have to adjust the outer layer of fabric every 20 climbing days or so otherwise it would eventually open up on its own, but I don't mind that hassle since it gets me a chalk ball that doesn't leak. It is basically just a tube sock without any padding that is knit with a specific mesh size so if you have a variety of tube socks at home in various sizes and fabrics you could experiment yourself and maybe figure out how to make this yourself. I don't wear tube socks and was happy to spend a little money to have someone else figure out the right fabric that will perfectly coat my fingers with chalk when I squeeze it but also never fill the bottom of my chalk bag with free chalk but other climbers may be different.
