Great pack. Notes on Tempest vs Tempest Pro
Yes , I recommend this product
Overall, great backpack. Osprey quality/durability. Comfortable. One thing I especially like is the thin padding used for the main straps and hip belt. Compared to the thick foam other brands use, Osprey hiking packs feel comfortable and natural. Should you get the Tempest 20 or Tempest Pro 20? A few things I’ve noticed after my first few 30 miles with the pack: Weather-taped seams: Biggest thing I dislike about this pack. The taped zippers on the Pro are hard to zip and unzip, and I still probably need a rain cover for the Pacific Northwest. Ugh. Annoying every time. Pack height adjustment: Pro comes in one size, which you adjust with a system of straps. Regular Tempest comes in two sizes, and I believe you can adjust the height with a velcro system (not 100% sure about this for the 20.) Colors: I got the grey. The stretchy pockets are much lighter than they appear in the picture, so brown mud/dirt stains do show. Attachments: Similar, but Pro has two bungees + ice axe loops and doesn’t have the “stow-on-the-go” system for trekking poles. I prefer this configuration. Since I only use poles going downhill, I secure my folding poles in the two bungees. Mesh exterior pocket: Pro has a sturdier and more stretchy mesh than the regular Tempest, so it doesn’t need the clip. Would I get this backpack again?: If I could go back in time, I would spend WAY less time overthinking which backpack to get!! I would have been fine with any Tempest (20, Pro 20, 24), the Osprey Sportlite 25, or even any REI Flash 22.

This is a perfect size for long day hikes. I was able to carry all that I needed (extra jacket, water bottles, snacks, and several other items without a problem. The straps adjust easily and the back is comfortable to wear.
