Fantastic!

If you’ve purchased from OR before, this follows the same quality line as the rest of the brand. I purchased the Jupiter color and that’s the only sight negative I have to say about this. As someone that’s done tons of product photography for massive brands, it should be noted this isn’t as red as it shows in the photo. It’s got a little more orange in it which is probably why the named it Jupiter.

Mmm, warm.

Breaths well on the move and retains warmth when resting. Hood fits well under a helmet. Love the grid fleece.

Great!

This hoodie is great! Its stiching is solid, and the fit is great for wearing under heavier layers. The reason that I subtracted a star is that the orange color is not as bright as the picture suggests. I bought this hoodie for big game hunting, but it's not even close to safe/legal blaze orange. It's more of a burnt orange, very subdued. I honestly feel a little tricked by how bright they make it look in the picture... Anywho, if color isn't a big deal to you, this hoodie works great!

Great inner layer jacket - buggy zipper

I really like this OR zip up hoodie. It is perfect as my first layer and provides excellent warmth, including when I use the hood. However... The zipper regularly gets hung up on the backing fabric that runs the length of the zipper. Several times I didn't think I was going to be able to free up the zipper. I definitely must hold the jacket tight at the bottom to unzip to help ensure it doesn't get hung up, but even I've had the zipper get stuck. I have another layer jacket that zips closed and open without any issues which a backing fabric too, but it is wider, which I believe may help with the zipper not getting hung up on my other jacket. OR may want to consider a wider backing material. Otherwise it's an excellent inner layer jacket. I also bought it because it has a front upper pocket on the left that allows for easy access to my phone.

STILL GOOD BUT A DOWNGRADE FROM PREVIOUS GEN

I absolutely love the Vigor Grid Fleece Hoodie and own 4. Three older versions and one of this new version. For reference I'm 6'4" 225lb with a slight dad bod and prefer a slightly loose fit (not baggy though) Heres the breakdown: - Fit is a bit more snug than previous gen. I like the previous gen fit better - Material seems more breathable and slightly less warm. Still great though - New zipper is a major downgrade. It constantly eats the black fabric on the backside of the zipper and I have to hold the material out by the belly button to unzip without jamming. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. They could improve this - Thumb holes are excellent - Colors are excellent (I have the bright orange) - Hood is excellent So some slight critiques which is why it got 4 stars. The fit is a preference, so did not downgrade for that since its a personal item. The zipper needs to be improved.

Warm but some issues with the seems1

The product fits great and is perfect as a middle layer! I wore it skiing on a day that temperatures drop to 20 degrees and was perfectly happy with the performance. The only issue I see is that the seems of the inner sleeves started to develop some clumps after just five uses. I am worried that the same will happen with other seems, specially if using directly under a shell on warmer days.

Mismatch if airy fabric and heavy zippers/seams

I wanted to love this - I have an old grid fleece piece from another brand but it’s pullover so I wanted a full zip. But this just didn’t work. The seams and zippers are too robust for the very light and airy fabric, and so it feels clunky. This fabric is amazingly breathable but the zips and seams thing was a dealbreaker. OR puts out lots of great pieces, this one just missed it for me!

High quality-great features-almost unwearable.

Bought this to wear as part of an extreme cold alpine system component, that is as a mid layer over three (3) layers of merino wool base layers and beneath an OR hard shell and when necessary, OR puffy. Fat chance! Hood-excellent. Pockets-excellent. Thumb holes in sleeves-great, especially for what is supposed to be a mid layer. Inner pockets-great. Really, really comfortable. But all of that is moot. Apparently OR defines "Trim fit" as a snug fit for malnourished third world famine refugees. I MIGHT be able to layer this over a skin-tight t-shirt...maybe. And I bought the largest size available. I did give it three stars because I can wear it without an underlayer when jogging as long as I don't run too fast when it would probably interfere with deep, fast breathing. If you are about six feet (1.8 m) tall and weigh 165 pounds (75 kg) this might work for you as a mid-layer IF you buy size XXL. Otherwise I don't recommend it.

Not a fan of the redesign

Redesign for 2024 is disappointing. I own 3 of these and love them. Thought I'd pick up another one on sale. The new version no longer has YKK zippers, nor the cool reinforced sleeve by the wrists. All of the pockets now have mesh instead of fabric. I understand these production cuts were likely due to inflation, but it is disappointing.

Favorite fleece for climbing and hiking

I love this fleece. I had a previous version which I have owned for many years and put it through the wringer, it’s still holding up just fine. I grabbed this new version on sale and have to say it even has several improvements, notably the sleeve cuffs are less bulky and the zippers function more smoothly. Well done OR!
