Well designed collapsable bottle
REI does it again! Well designed and fitted for any kind of activity, this handheld water bottle is a joy to use. The bottle is collapsable which minimizes weight during longer efforts and the straps are fully adjustable. Comes with a convenient flap closure mesh pocket to hold some essentials. Note the pocket is not large enough for your mobile phone. One additional note for new users of handheld hydration bottles - the collapsable bottle takes getting used to. As you deplete the liquid, there is more movement of the bottle than with a hard sided and notably heavier option. I would take less weight over adjusting to bottle movement but I can imagine that is not a choice for everyone. I would recommend this especially for those training for longer/harder effort activities (ie trail, half marathon, marathons) for hydration you can easily carry and have at the ready.
Pocket Perks & Hand Hurdles
TLDR: Neat water bottle pouch with great features, but pocket durability may be a concern, especially for those with a hand circumference larger than 10 inches. I recently received this nifty little REI Swiftland water bottle and holder for review. The water bottle itself is a HydraPak Ultraflask WMX that comes apart nicely to throw in the dishwasher. I've had a few from this brand, and they hold up well. I would like to see a locking mechanism on the spout to prevent leaks, but that is lacking here. Still, it holds liquid on runs quite well and only ever leaked a small amount. The water bottle sleeve has a clever design, made from polyester and spandex on the upper with the bottom made from nylon to prevent scuffs. There is a little pocket with a clip for keys, snacks, or whatever small things you might need on a run. The opening for the water bottle is large enough to slide it in while full. The opening also has a nice elastic cinch with a locking spring to prevent the water bottle from coming out while moving. The hand straps are adjustable and seem very solid. The backing of the straps is made from a softer polyester while the structure is made from fabric straps. I have fairly large hands, with a diameter of 10 inches (25.4cm), so the straps don't sit as far up my palm as I'd like. The holder still stayed on my hand for every run I took it on and sits easier when the bottle isn't completely full. Durability-wise, I like seeing the nylon on the bottom to prevent scrapes if I do nick a rock or tree branch. However, I'm a little worried about the front pocket's longevity. It's held on the top by two stitchings through a mesh polyester. I've had other REI products with this same mesh that will rip through the stitching. If you don't use the pocket often or don't overstuff it, you will improve the lifespan of the mesh. Aesthetically, the sleeve is all black with white "REI" lettering. The straps and top cinch are a matching burnt yellow color with small grey reflective tape on the bottom of the straps. Overall, a neat little pouch for shorter runs; however, I'm going to have to let my partner use it as it is just too small for my hands.
Versatile Little Bottle Goes Wherever You Do!
I really like how light and packable this little bottle is. The fabric is really soft and stretchy, kind of like a light weight neoprene or something. There's even nice reflective tape in several spots to take out at dusk for safety. It's easy to remove the inner bottle and the screw off wide mouth makes it really easy to clean. With multiple clip-on points and a secure double strap for holding it is super adaptable for many activities. So far, I've mostly used it while hiking and as an easy light-weight bottle to carry to the park with my toddler...a very nice antidote to a huge and heavy stainless steel bottle when you just need water for an hour or two. The pop-top is nice because you can have it strapped on one hand and use your mouth only to open it for drinking...in case your other hand is busy holding a wiggly kid like mine often is! I'm really glad that it's BPA and PVC free so I can use it with my son in good conscience.
big fan
Ok, this bottle fits over a glove but can be tightened, has a pocket for___ (my keys), the nozzle is the bite and suck kind, doesn't leak, and doesn't fall off when the bottle is empty. 14 oz seems like the right amount of water to carry. (I've had other handheld bottles that felt too small). I use it for shorter day hikes but it feels like it be helpful for runners as well. I couldn't figure out a way to get it to hold my phone as well but that is alot to ask.
Perfect little bottle
I got this item to help keep me hydrated on my morning jogs, but it has turned out to be a pretty dynamic little sports bottle. It is small enough that it fits right into my hand while I am running, and the accessory pocket is nice, because it lets me keep my keys in my hand so that i don't have them slapping my in the hip from a pocket. It also has a comfortable hand-strap that keeps it in my palm without me having to think about it. On top of that though I noticed that the pliability of the bottle makes it very packable. It fits in my ski-pack that I use on the mountain, and it even fit perfectly into the toolbag on the back of my dirtbike. It's just enough water to keep my from drying out without being too much to carry when you are moving. The only negative is that you really have to scrub it clean before and after every use or else the water gets plastic tasting really fast.
Very versatile, multiple uses
Nice design, easy to use, can be used for many different activities. I took this on a hike with hiking poles and had no problem carrying it while using my poles. I did a 5mi hike with no hand fatigue. Due to its compact design I can see myself throwing this in a day pack or even packing it in my lunch tote. Would be useful if you have small children and are concerned about them dropping/spilling a drink in a car. My runner friend tried it out and was pleased with the design and ease of use as well. I have very small hands, my male friend has large hands and we were both able to adjust the straps on the carry bag to fit both of us comfortably. Adjustments are very easy. I did have trouble fitting my keys into the outer pocket on the carry bag, better suited for an id then keys until your carrying a single key. I do recommend rinsing it with a little warm water and baking soda to remove the "new smell". Only gave it 4 stars because it did have a bit of a nasty taste before I soaked it in baking soda.
Great size and function
I LOVE this water bottle. I just need a little bit of water to get me past the first couple miles of my run in the Alabama summer heat, and this is the perfect size. The bottle and straps feel secure and the bite valve works really well. I do wish the pocket was big enough to hold my phone, but I've found that I can put my palm through the straps and hold my phone with the bottle on the back of my hand. Since I was holding my phone during my run anyway, this works well for me. The strap system also works great when used as advertised (holding the bottle in the palm of your hand).
Very nicely made, but small capacity
This handheld bottle is easy to fill, seems to seal well, and the outer "jacket" appears to be very well made. It has a carabiner, some tiny pockets, and fits securely on your hand, but the bottle only holds 14 ounces - about enough for a swallow or two - or to take medicine. It's not for long hikes. My kid uses it on dog walks and likes it for this purpose.
New Summer Sidekick
The bottle was so easy to remove from the holder which is a great start. A lot of my Nathan bottles is like wrestling, WWE style, just to wash or refill the bottle. After a simple trail and road run, I can say this bottle is going to be my summer companion!!! I love the options the handles have to either hold one strap or two to adjust the tightness. Also it makes it ambidextrous for those left handed people out there— very thoughtful. I had no issues with the cap seal and enjoyed the product from start to finish. Would purchase in many colors if the opportunity provided.
gets the job done
Minimal, effective hydration for shorter jaunts. It’s been a hot summer, and I got this on sale for an affordable option without going full vest. On the smaller side, it works great for my runs around an hour or less in the heat. The straps and fit work well, and I like having the small pocket to stash a bit of nutrition.
