A Front Porch for Your Tent

I have struggled to have a good place to be out of the rain, other than the tent, when camping. Although I'd never seen anything like this in-person, I decided to try it when I ordered a Basecamp 4 tent, even though I was still sort struggling to picture how it all worked. I've only taken it out on one weekend trip, so I can't speak to longevity, yet. But it did rain significantly a couple of times during the weekend. And it did what I was hoping--it gave us space to hang out and stay dry! We ended up making breakfast under it both days, and just hang out. We had 2 people, but we could have fit more. It worked well both with and without the vehicle backed up to it, and it also didn't leak into the tent. I didn't use the guylines in setting it up, and it still worked, although it would probably have been more taut if I'd used them. I got a 5x8 rug to go under it, and the 5' side was about right, but 8' doesn't cover the whole thing (I started it under the tent vestibule). I was able to set it up and take it down by myself, without any problems.

Pre-2024 Base Camp User - Great addition!

I received this shelter last week and just finished up a weekend event, 2-nights, car camping with Cub Scouts. I wasn’t sure if it would work with my pre-2024 Base Camp 4, but I’m glad I took the risk. We hooked it up to the front of the tent to make a seating area. The ridge post lined up with the front roof vent - so I’m not sure how this would hold up in rain.
