As an avid hiker and outdoorsman living on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, I hike 10 to 15 miles weekly and head to the beach every other day. Recently, I tried out the Coast KL20 R Flashlight and FX200 Pocket Knife Combo on a 9-mile hike along the Moanalua Valley Trail, as well as during several beach trips. I found the knife and flashlight durable and made of high-quality materials. The knife features a stiff and sturdy pocket clip that kept it securely attached to my hip, even while boogie boarding. I was also pleased to find that the blade showed no signs of rust or other functional issues after leaving the beach. The blade hinge and opening lock feel well-made. However, I did notice that the knife's handle lacked a flat side, which caused it to dig into my skin and create an impression after several hours of wear. Additionally, the knife lacks a locking mechanism to keep it closed. Opening the blade requires very little force. The knife includes a handy bottle opener and is small and packable. It's important to note that it's not a self-defense knife and may be difficult to open with one hand. The blade is small and best suited for utility use, for example, cutting small ropes, fishing tackle, cutting small pieces of meat, or opening retail packages. This light is really tiny. I was thoroughly impressed with the brightness of the flashlight. It emits a high number of lumens for its small size, making it five to ten times more luminous than any cell phone light I have used. This flashlight is the ultimate choice for a key chain light due to its brightness, durability and rechargeable feature. It can easily fit in your pocket, making it convenient to carry anywhere. I even submerged the light several times at the beach, and it still works perfectly. The light has a feature where you can adjust the brightness with just a click and turn it on with a double click, which I found very useful. Overall, the knife and flashlight combo is a good choice for those looking to pack light and can be easily attached to a sling bag or backpack or stored in a pouch or case.
What a great keychain flashlight . Pros: Very small light that packs a punch. To turn on the flashlight: You press the button twice for med beam to come on and once more for low beam to come on . For the high beam you have to hold the button down and if u release it the light goes off. You can hold the button down for about 30 seconds and then it dems down to med mode and the flashlight a little hot by the led but not too bad. I like when the flashlight is on the button lights up green (med and low mode only) does not light up green in high mode when u have to hold the button down. This is a very well made flashlight that I’ll use everyday in my line of work and fits on my key chain so I’ll always have it with me. Cons : None
This little knife and flashlight combo is going to be really useful for camping. I have been carrying them around with me for a couple of weeks just to give them a workout. So far, so good. The flashlight is really tiny and very lightweight, so it fits in my pocket (on my keyring) and I hardly know it's there. It's rechargeable, so I can use my portable solar recharger, which is always in my backpack for camping and hiking. And it uses USB C, which is convenient since that's the same charging connector as my phone. The knife is much lighter than my old multi-tool. And like the flashlight, it's pretty small, so it's there if I need it, but it's not taking up a lot of space. When I first got it, I wondered why I would ever use the money clip. Turns out, that's helpful to keep the knife at the top of my pocket so I can reach it quickly. And the lanyard hole will prevent it from getting lost if that convenient location allows it to slip out my pocket. I haven't actually had time to use it on a camping trip yet, but I've got one of those coming up. I'm confident these will come in very handy!
Upon receiving the product my 1st impression of the packaging was great. I removed the flashlight and immediately plugged it in and found that it was already 100% charged. The small ring that came with the flashlight worked great to put with ease onto a small carabiner on my pack. The knife seemed super lightweight. It worked great for me since I am always looking for the lightest item to use on my Appalachian Trail hikes. I did notice the blade was not very sharp straight from the factory. So I put a good edge on it. And quickly found out that the grade of steel caused the knife to be quite difficult to put a very sharp edge on it. (Pic attached). After finally getting a good edge on it and storing the knife on my pants pocket with the clip. It did take 2 hands to get the clip onto my pocket then slide it in. This was due to the bottle opener on my pants being caught every single time as I would slide it into my pocket. The knife did very well in cutting small tinder to start a fire. The flashlight was absolutely perfect to hang from the middle of my tent to turn on and leave it while getting ready for bed or dressed in the mornings. Overall this combo worked great. But due to the knife having the bottle opener and getting snagged every time I put it up that was a huge negative for me personally.
To turn on you have to push the button twice and it puts you in high, hit it again and it puts you in low. Hold the button and it put you in turbo mode. Compared to other coast flashlight this is bright in turbo for such a small flashlight. Like that it has a usb-c charge on it. It does get warm after awhile when I was playing around with it. Also comes with the usb-c cable.
The Kl20R light & FX200 knife came together as a combo, which is good because I might not otherwise have tried the FX200 knife. It’s a “frame hafted” knife without scales - which makes is more compact and lightweight, but it’s feels very different from the knife I usually carry. There is a hole in the blade which allows for one-handed opening, but it’s a little tricky because the base of my thumb tends to come into contact with the blade, which is very sharp out of the package. It seems easier & safer to use both hands, but it may be an issue of practice. Once deployed the blade locks securely with a frame lock mechanism. This is solid, but after a few times it’s beginning to show a little wear & might eventually loosen. There are knurled grip points on the top of the blade & bottom of the haft for your thumb & forefinger, which helps with stability. The grip is more comfortable than it looks, but not what I’m used to. Haven’t had a chance to use the bottle opener, but it’s a nice addition. The KL20R mini flashlight is little short of amazing. It will charge fully in about 50 minutes. There are 2 main power settings (high 165 lumens, low 50 lumens), and a “turbo” setting of 380 lumens. The light will shine for about 90 min on high before dimming, and at least 3 hrs on low (package says 6.5 hr & I believe it). The light throws a strong beam for about 30 ft, and on high it’s bright enough to illuminate a small room or tent. The turbo setting is activated by holding the power button down, and switches off when released - a good thing because the led bulb becomes quite warm even after just a minute. The light is small enough to put on a key chain or tuck into a pack or bag & be out of the way until needed. Both the light and the knife would be excellent “back up” tools. The knife might be a good option for people focused on shaving weight or space. The light is excellent, though maybe not what I would choose for my sole source of illumination when camping or hiking. All in all, very impressed!
These products, although small, work like a charm ! Love being able to clip knife to my pocket and the light is very bright for being so tiny. Very impressed with the quality of both products. Will definitely recommend.
This combo was sent to me to test and it passed with flying colors! The flashlight is a powerhouse. Click it twice and you get the middle light and it is very bright. Has a light range of at least 30-40'. One more click and it gets dimmer for indoors. Hold it down and it has a surge light for short term brightness. The only thing it doesn't have is a spotlight feature which I only realized because the light was so bright, I was using it to look for a deer in the dark. It comes with a small charge cord, so you can recharge it on a battery pack. It really is about the size of a lip balm so I put it on a lanyard to keep from losing it in my pack. I put the knife on there too so that I can put both around my neck for easy access around a campsite and can find them in a tent. They are both so lightweight and small that I was afraid I would lose them. The knife opens smoothly and fits nicely in my hand for cutting. It is 3" when folded, slim, very sharp and has a bottle opener on it. Both of these would be great additions for the minimalist, and I could see having several of these flashlights for keychains, cars, etc.
Darn good lil knife, holds a edge well and the full frame lock is a nice touch. I combined mine with a multitool I have to give it a little extra handle. Well worth the the price!
Received the FX200 the other day and it's a cool little blade. But… the product pictures are better than the IRL product. The "gold" hardware is a dull bronze color, not the brightly polished gold reflected in the product images. Pretty disappointed with that from an aesthetic standpoint—the dull bronze hardware just makes the knife a little less interesting… Anyway, for what it is, $15.00 is a value price point for this 2" blade multitool. The FX200 has a lot of utility with the bottle opener, and contrary to other reviews, if you just put your finger on the bottle opener when you slide it into your pocket, the pocket clip works just fine. Overall the FX200 is an interesting design and definitely can function as a money clip. One other small design issue is that I wish there was a little more guard for your index finger just before the blade—if you were to push this lil' guy with some force, your finger might slip forward onto the blade. I'll still give it 4 stars because it's cool, but definitely could use some minor design rework and flashier hardware.
