I bought a pair of the Evo OT skis with bindings last winter. I wanted a ski to use when skiing with my dogs on ungroomed trails in Millcreek Canyon in Utah. The trail is groomed once a week and can get very icy near the bottom of the trail. The Evo OT performed above my expectations. I found the ski to have amazing glide and great grip skiing up hill. It was super easy to turn downhill with the partial metal edge and I felt in control all the time… Great Edge hold! I bought a pair of the Rossignol OT X5 boots at the same time and found the skis and boots worked together nicely.
REI was very good with helping me to order these skis. But they were lost in shipment so, without hesitation, REI put an order through with a second pair knowing that the first pair was at a USPS warehouse stuck. And so, the second pair did not show up either. REI needs to get better shipping.
I've been using these heavily for 4 years in Alaska - tracks, groomed trails, off-trail, and up and down gnarly hilly stuff. I have various pairs of XC skis, but these get the most use and are the ones I reach for when conditions are unknown or imperfect. I end up scratching them up each year, but just P-Tex the bottoms and they keep trucking. The metal edges make them super versatile.
Saturday, February 15. Early morning, wet snow, late morning, freezing rain, early afternoon, dry snow. Skis worked well all day.
