Yakima baseline fx
I have installed this product twice onto my 2011 ford focus and the clips do not stay on and poor customer support from Yakima to correct this issue, not happy with how it isn’t staying on my car
You need 100$ clips/pads too or these wont work
You need to purchase base clips and pads to install these. You don't really need the pads, you could prob just trim some fabric or neoprene. But what you need is the side clips to grip to the frame of your roof. They don't tell you this till you open up the box and look at the directions in an innocuous place on the directions that you will overlook till you get into step 7 on page 5 and realize you are missing something. My Thule's had the clip integrated permanently or at least semi permanently where you didn't need to install them. This makes no sense and is frustrating racks that are 400$ a piece.
Looks great and is solidly attached
Installed on my pickup truck and the FX version looks great. With the crossbars flowing smoothly into the towers, the rack almost looks like an OEM rack except for the small portion of the clips that shows. I had concerns about how much of a grip the rack could have since there are no rain gutters on my truck, but the way the towers are designed applies substantial inward force to the clips in addition to the downward force. Definitely feel the racks are solidly attached. Subtracted one star because the measurements in the instructions were about an inch off. But once I actually put the first crossbar on the roof, it was obvious how they should fit. It was much easier to install the second crossbar by just putting it in place with the adjustments loose then fit it to the roof and tighten the adjustments. I'm tempted to withhold another star, but didn't. Given how costly this rack is, the locks should be included in the price. I'm definitely going to have to buy and add the locks since the truck will be left parked unattended for extended periods at trailheads and boat launches. Without the locks, anyone with two minutes and the right tools could steal the rack.
