TheTentLab The DirtSaw Deuce #3 Trowel
Built to dig, pry and cut, the patent-pending TheTentLab The DirtSaw Deuce #3 trowel has an updated design that makes it faster and easier to create the perfect hole in rocky, rooty ground.
- DirtSaw Deuce #3 weighs less than 1 oz.
- Wide and smooth teeth are specifically designed to agitate and cut dirt like a serrated knife but they won't snag on roots or threaten to cut your hand
- 2 deep notches on the front edge protect recessed teeth that you can sharpen to slice tenacious roots
- Teeth are protected so they can stay sharp and they're far enough away from the front edge that they don't threaten your hand when using the trowel upside down
- Use the trowel handle-side down to probe the top 3 in. for rocks or roots—this is how you'll use the trowel about a third of the time
- Ray bends make the trowel 65% stronger against bending in the middle and almost 3x stronger at the hole; elliptical hole shape is stronger, too
- Short handle allows you to exert more force by pushing on the shoulders and top of the trowel at the same time
- Handle end is slightly flared so you can use the DirtSaw as a pull or push saw
- Blunt front shape is great for pulling out loose dirt from deeper holes and makes a stronger tip for prying (when you're not prying with the handle end)
- Handle ripples add friction and surface area for greater hand comfort
- Size of the scoop is very useable for moving dirt quickly out of a hole
- 7075-T6 aluminum meets AMS4045 strength standards
- Tumbled and fully de-burred for smooth, rounded edges
- Colorful anodized finish keeps it from corroding or rubbing off on your hand
- Can be 100% recycled anywhere that accepts aluminum
- TheTentLab offers a lifetime warranty on this product

Poor design/overpriced
I’m not a fan…went camping in the forests surrounding Mt.Hood , OR . Had a really tough time digging more than about 3 inches…not quite the 6 needed . The thin Aluminum handle is small( that’s the point) but tough ground it like digging with a spoon. Also the thin handle cuts into your hand . Wrapping the handle with cord cord help, or a few other things but all around poor design . And seriously $25 !!! I’d say $5-8 would be reasonable since you’re going to want to modify the handle
It digs!
Works fine but the edges on the handle could be easier on the hands. If the ground is hard, it’s a little uncomfortable
not beefy enough
My review is based on The Deuce #3, which I expect is the predecessor to this one. In any case, it's probably about the same build size and thickness. It worked well enough for me, though I needed to use a glove to keep from cutting into my hand, until I was digging a cat hole for a family of five in Northeast Yellowstone. The soil was moderately rocky, and the tip of the Deuce broke right off on a stone.
I know the real reason they call this "The Deuce"
Very thin and flimsy. I honestly thought that for $23.95 I would be getting a solid piece of equipment, it was obviously wrong of me to assume that. When they say it weighs less than an ounce and can be thrown into any recycle bin, they mean it. I would imagine this cost around 25¢ to make. It will most likely be trash after a few uses. Very very overpriced. This thing should be priced around 4 or $5.
Does its Duty
Your basic shovel which also has a cutting edge. This helps pierce tough terrain. What more can be said? It's a good, lightweight, product.
