Features

  • DirtSaw Deuce #2 weighs only 0.6 oz.
  • Wide and smooth teeth are specifically designed to agitate and cut dirt like a serrated knife but they won't snag on roots or threaten to cut your hand
  • 2 deep notches on the front edge protect recessed teeth that you can sharpen to slice tenacious roots
  • Teeth are protected so they can stay sharp and they're far enough away from the front edge that they don't threaten your hand when using the trowel upside down
  • Use the trowel handle-side down to probe the top 3 in. for rocks or roots—this is how you'll use the trowel about a third of the time
  • Ray bends make the trowel 65% stronger against bending in the middle and almost 3x stronger at the hole; elliptical hole shape is stronger, too
  • Short handle allows you to exert more force by pushing on the shoulders and top of the trowel at the same time
  • Handle end is slightly flared so you can use the DirtSaw as a pull or push saw
  • Blunt front shape is great for pulling out loose dirt from deeper holes and makes a stronger tip for prying (when you're not prying with the handle end)
  • Handle ripples add friction and surface area for greater hand comfort
  • Size of the scoop is very useable for moving dirt quickly out of a hole
  • 7075-T6 aluminum meets AMS4045 strength standards
  • Tumbled and fully de-burred for smooth, rounded edges
  • Colorful anodized finish keeps it from corroding or rubbing off on your hand
  • Can be 100% recycled anywhere that accepts aluminum
  • TheTentLab offers a lifetime warranty on this product

Leave No Trace: Consult specific land management agencies for waste rules. At lower elevations, you may be able to deposit solid and menstrual waste (such as from a menstrual cup) in cat holes dug 6 to 8 inches deep at least 200 feet from water, camp, trails and drainages. To minimize impact, we strongly recommend that you pack out used toilet paper, even if burying is permitted by the land management agency. Always pack out wipes (even those that are labeled biodegradable or compostable) and menstrual hygiene products.

Meh.

I've been using this for a few years. It really does not dig well unless you are in sand. It doesn't handle even the tiniest amount of resistance and I find myself either with an inadequate hole (when you gotta go...) or using my hands or a rock instead.

not beefy enough

I'm reviewing the previous product, the Deuce of Spades #2. I'm assuming the build thickness is similar. I thought it was pretty good for backpacking, though i needed to use a glove to dig with it. It ultimately proved to be stupid light. I was digging a reusable cathole for one night for a family of five (read: more digging) in moderately rocky soil in northeast Yellowstone, and the tip broke right off on a rock.

Awful against roots

Digs well, but beware: trowel is useless against roots. So if your planning on being in a heavily forested area, don’t bother with this.

Used it probably 4 trips so far, desert and oak/high desert areas. Has done the job and adds no weight so I’m a happy camper!
