A poor replacement for the Siam 7
Have been using the Salomon Siam 7 Prolink boots for some time, but the bases are starting to crack. The Siam 7s were wider and more comfortable (and I have narrow feet). My feet were never cold, even in -30 C weather, they were perfectly comfortable out of the box, and never gave me a blister. They were the best boots. The new Vitane plus is narrow and makes my feet go numb, even with the laces left loose. And the biggest thing missing- no more nice wide loop on the back to carry my boots to and from the car. It was sooooo convenient and I used it every time. Please please please bring back the Siam 7s, just as they were. They were perfect. And every ski I saw tons of other people wearing them, so obviously I wasn't the only one to think this. This new model is nowhere near as good.
Do not buy these boots -Laces break way too easily
Do not buy these books. The boot itself is comfortable. Since we had so little snow last year, I only got to use them 3 times last year. I went to use them yesterday and when I got to the ski parking lot, I found the laces shredded at the tightening clamp. The laces are so thin and weak that the boot’s tightening clamp shredded the lace when it wasn’t even being used. I read reviews about the replacement laces and one person said they had to replace the laces 8 times in 3 months. Basically, if you own these boots, you will never know when the ridiculously thin and weak lace will break. So I will have to carry back up Velcro cinch straps whenever I ski, to help keep the boot somewhat tight when the lace goes, as it looks like it will a lot. Solomon warranty said to go to the store where it was bought to deal with a warranty claim. I bought the boots just over a year ago, so I don’t think REI will do anything to make it better. REI if you see this, can you please send me new laces or let me get a different boot?
Huge blisters
I have been incapacitated by these boots. The first time I wore them was on a 5 mile ski, and I got a smallish blister. The second time, on a 7 mile ski, I got two, huge, incredibly painful blisters on the inside of each of my heels. My left heel has been hurting for a week. I even put 'Glide" on my heels before wearing them the second time. Something in the boot ripped my heels to shreds. Do not buy these boots.
