Odd design = not as great is it could be
I own the shorter light set and was excited to get the longer string - hoping that it would keep the good and dump the bad traits of the shorter string. Nope, still a design mess. The Good: Love the string lights and 3 levels of brightness. The integrated clipping points on the line are brilliantly useful and good tiny size. Overall length is good. Little flashlight light is gone, and new yellow handle is soft. There is more space in the light storage spool, but it still seems like the spacing of light could have been better designed to not get bunched up when wrapped around the spool. The Meh: The form factor makes it hard to find the on button on the round surface and identify it from other button. The handle clips do not allow for fastening the handle as a loop on one side - we tried and tried, and the handle crosses the solar light and can not be set to go under the other side. Unit is staticky, collecting dirt and animal hair on shell. :( The hole form factor seems bigger than necessary. The Bad/stupid: The string unplugs, but can not be used with any other USB power source. Where it plugs into this power source is under all the wraps of string. They designed a hole to put the large plug for storage - but when plugged in it and the cap to the jack are both big and in the way of winding the cord. So if you only want to use part of the long cord you have to leave it plugged in inside the spool and work around these bigger than necessary obstacles on the spool. The closure mechanism on the storage spool area is tough (large smooth circle to grasp, push and turn while keeping the light string out of the way. The spool lid WILL be a failure point - just a matter of time and dirt. When stored you can't see if the lights are on = can be draining battery without knowing it. Suggested fix that would take them from good to great: They should just make the storage cover out of flexy transparent silicone that bends to cover or reveal and many of the frustrating things on this light would be all solved in one go. You would be able to use as a lantern through the transparent cover, be able to see if accidentally on, and the wind/unwind cover would be super user friendly and not a mechanical gizmo that can break. Also fix the handle so it can go over, under or in a loop to maximize the ways we can fasten the solar panel to hold it for charging All that said, the lights are quite pleasant - but I am considering a return for them.
Disappointed
I picked up these solar string lights to use during our camping adventures. The product is very easy to set-up and use. I love that the whole string light is contained within the power hub when not in use and that the string can be detached to charge. The string lights lasted two nights on a single charge - also great. The quality of the product appeared durable BUT on the second use the string light frayed and now doesn't work. This string light saw light use and didn't hold up and it appears that you can't buy replacement strings. I'm disappointed that for an expensive product that promotes itself as a renewable/rechargeable solution that it can fail under "light use" and no replacement parts are offered.
Love this string light
I absolutely love these lights for my 4Runner overlanding setup. Very bright, lights up my entire campsite. The solar is great. It doesn't draw very much power at night but it's easy to recharge in the sun the next day. Such a great light for car camping or overlanding.
Camp lights!
I love these lights so much that when it went on sale I bought two more! We brought them camping with us and it was such a great light to have up to be able to see at night without having harsh lantern lights everywhere. I just wished I had one more to light the other side of the campground, but won’t have to worry about that now that I have another on the way.
worth the money!
took these camping for the first time and they held up for three nights. The solar power was nice I charged my phone for a bit as well but I mainly wanted it for the lights and they did not disappoint!
Awesome string lights ! I purchased a 2nd set
The MPowerd LUCI String light are awesome ! They work as advertised. The low setting is a very nice mood light. The medium setting is a very nice ambient area lighting. Switch it to high, When you need to work or cook something. Then have more than enough light. With Turning them off when I go to bed. With the solar panel charging during the day. They’ve lit up my camp for at least 4 winter nights, and I have not run out of light. This is actually my 2nd set that I purchased because the 1st set works so well. The 1st set stays on my truck camper awning. This set will light up my gazebo. Now I can light up my entire camp Beautifully !
Luci 44-Foot String: Meh.
Luci 44' Solar String Lights: Meh. I have set these up 4 times since June '23 for a total of 20 days car-camping in Maine and northern NY, mostly for 1.) maintaining an 'occupied' appearance while away from camp in the evening, 2.) for a cheerful, homey look to return to after dark, and 3.) for nice ambiance inside a large tent while preparing to bed down for the night. All good. On first use it was clear this needs gentle handling as the case and LED-cord are not particularly robust. So far the case and cord remain intact, but they aren't likely to withstand frequent frantic setups and takedowns yanking the string and dropping the slippery case. I recommend using lots of mini-biners to hang the string, rather than trying to pull the little LED pods through any small openings. I have been very conservative in lumen-hour usage (Low setting, 4-6 hours per night), which has paid off in the ability to mostly fully recharge the unit in the sun. Charging has been enhanced by re-positioning the solar panel a few times during each day, in June and July. If it's cloudy, you can mostly forget solar charging. Also, based on how fast the LEDs deplete the charge, I would forget trying to use this as a device charging hub. I was most disappointed when the strap broke off while in loop-handle mode. This happened in normal, gentle use. Close inspection shows that the strong, robust, rubbery strap was attached to the case with 2 tiny plastic nubs, each about 1.5mm thick X 4mm wide: doing the arithmetic, less than 0.02 square inches of plastic. Ridiculously fragile. And this happened, wait for it...Just after the 1-year warranty expired! I plan to try taking the case apart and coming up with a better case-hanging arrangement: a winter shop project perhaps.
Great light to set the mood, but.....
Wanted to give five stars but there are some features after using this item that I feel could be better. I will start with the good as this lighting accessory has been a staple at the campsite since I purchased it. The light gives the best ambiance to the campsite. With the 3 adjustable brightness settings you can set the mood at the campsite perfectly. The low setting is great for just chilling and and high can actually produce enough light to do tasks around the campsite if needed. Medium, well its in the middle of the high and low and I don't use it much really. With the 44' of lights I usually end up with too much string for the area I want to cover and thats a good thing. I wouldn't want any more as it may get a bit cumbersome to deal with. Just note that rolling up the line does twist a little due to the way you wrap it around the body of the device. Now to the negatives, the silicone strap is not the best design and mine has already broken off after about 12 uses. I thought it got in the way for solar charging and the closure system was awkward, so I never liked the strap and like it better now the thing broke off. Just a caribiner hook on the side would have sufficed and worked better for my uses. The battery indicator is helpful and lets you know with the push of the button how much battery you have left. When plugged in to usb power the lights will illuminate indicating the item is charging, however if charging by solar there are no indicators so not reassuring that the solar is working. For those looking to purchase do so as I really enjoy this addition to the campsite just wanted to call out the few things to be aware of. Enjoy!
Solid light
We used this on a car camping trip. We set it up in the canopy over our picnic table and it did a great job lighting up the area. The solar panel didn't work well enough to charge the battery all the way. It has low/medium/high settings which allowed us to extend the battery life while giving us plenty of light when we needed it. Seems a little overpriced for the function, but we couldn't find anything else that would do the job in a robust package.
Perfect for camping!
I love these solar lights! I got them to add to my camping setup, as I have the smaller version for inside the tent. It lasted a multi-day camping trip and stayed on for 6+ hours each night. It was fully charged when we started our trip and I would solar charge it during the day just for ease of mind. What drew me to this product was that you can detach the charger port from the lights, so you don't have to remove your whole setup. There are different brightness settings, which was perfect once it got darker. The lights are very bright even on the lowest setting and provided enough light for our site.
