Almost Perfect! Needs Elbow Improvement.
This Rainrunner Pack Jacket 2.0 (December 2023) is almost perfect! It is quiet, lightweight, feels good against the skin, and has no plastic or rubber chemical smells. The arms and torso are the PERFECT length. The ONLY problem is in the elbows. I should say that I am very slim and athletic, and have long arms and torso. The elbow articulation needs to be improved if this jacket is to be worn over layers, such as a thicker merino base layer, or a light but warm insulated jacket. The elbows on the size small are too tight. I tried on several Rainrunners in both Cascade and Black, in both small and medium. The elbow articulation problem is consistent. If I size up to size medium, I can wear the jacket over layers better, because the elbow tightness improves, but then the entire midsection is HUGE, and I am swimming in the jacket. If I wear layers under the size small, I cannot bend my elbows without pain, and the shoulders become a bit snug, but the body/torso fits PERFECTLY. Please improve the elbow area. The elbows need to be just a little bigger, and/or have have some darts installed. Otherwise, this is THE perfect shell, and will work for rain and snow. But for those of you wishing to wear layers underneath (more than just a light base layer or hoody), you will likely need to size up because of the elbow issue. The quality of this jacket is excellent, as is the overall shape, length, and fit.
Horrible!!! Not for rain at all.
This was advertised as a RAIN jacket. It is far from that. I wore it to a concert and even during a light rain I got soaking wet within minutes!!!!
Not rain proof or even rain resistant.
Not waterproof at all. Soaked right through after 2 minutes of walking in the rain. This is a really expensive jacket and doesn't do what it claims to do. I tried to return it to REI but was past the return period and hadn't tested it in the rain within the period. Very disappointed in this jacket, especially considering the price.
Not waterproof
While the fit and weight are great, this jacket does not keep you dry. The first time I wore it, it was completely saturated within an hour of being in moderate rainfall.
Gets pretty wet, and saturated with water
I got this last year and tried it in the light California rain, and did notice some wetness coming through, but didn’t think too much of it. Then I brought it to Iceland… big mistake. Very shortly after going outside in the light-moderate rain and wind, this was saturated. It probably would be fine for a light sprinkling rain, but I wouldn’t trust it for much more. On the plus side, the hood stayed put in the wind, and it was very breathable.
Disappointing Running Jacket
I thought it was a great running jacket at first-- lightweight, roomy, and warm, perfect for chilly days or light rain. But it came with a stuck pocket zipper, which I found annoying. Worse, after a few months of wear (and laundering it with care, no dryer), the waterproof coating began to peel. I ignored it until recently, when it came loose and hung outside my sleeve. Now it's tattered and unwearable, despite being worn just under a year. I'd call this product POORLY MADE and expensive.
Great running jacket
Awesome jacket for running. Construction allows for air circulation and when you're all sweaty it doesn't leave you all cold and wet.
Yes, it’s waterproof.
Very confused by the reviews saying this isn’t waterproof. I’ve been stuck in torrential downpours in this jacket and it keeps me as dry as expected. Great jacket. Love the pack it in pocket. I own two!
