Easy to use, love the magnetic chest strap

I really like this hydration bag. The vest strap magnet is great—makes it so easy to use. I also really like the bite value with the on/off switch. The valve to regulates the water gives the perfect flow. The top closure slides so easily—big improvement from another one I have. And it is easy to fill. The removable straw is great for cleaning and drying—really like this design. I do wish it had a value cover, especially for multi-day trips as I seems to get the mouthpiece dirty.

Osprey 2.5 Liter Reservoir for Hydration

The reservoir was used on local hiking trails. The reservoir holds 85 ounces or 2.5 liters of water. The reservoir has a nice handle along the top of the bag that made it easy when refilling the bag. The handle is connected to the reservoir at the top and about 1/3 of the way down the reservoir. This allowed my hand to fit between the bag and handle for a good grip. The grip was nice when filling with ice and water as I did not worry about the bag slipping out of my hand. Another nice feature of the reservoir is the baffles on the inside of the bag that helped it to maintain a consistent shape and not bulging at any point in my backpack. The bite valve offered a steady flow rate with a valve that could be adjusted to control the rate.

Easy to fill and use

I have some other reservoirs, this one seems to be the one that seals most securely. The way it seals took me a second to figure out how to use it the first time, but after that it seals very simply and securely. It attaches more easily than some of the others that I have used, and it is the most easy to fill of any that I've seen. It opens at the top instead of a spot on the side, which makes for easy filling.

Perfect replacement bladder!!

Perfect size for long bike rides. I like the wide mouth opening. It makes it very easy to fill with ice and water straight from the dispenser on my refrigerator and also cleaning is a breeze. Very lightweight but durable. The handle is very convenient. I did not notice any unusual taste using the first time.

My Go-To Bladder

This is easily my go-to bladder for longer hikes. Osprey has done a great job tweaking their bladders over the various iterations. There’s a handful of things I love about this version, they all seem minor but when you hike/backpack a lot, it’s these tweaks that makes a difference. One is the hard “rib” in the center that makes it so much easier to shove into your backpack’s sleeve when the bladder is full of water. Like when I have a full backpacking pack, I used to have to remove all my stuff in order to shove a full bladder in without feeling like it’s going to pop the bladder. The “rib” helps a lot of keeping the bladder shape. Also helps for airing out when you’re cleaning the bladder. Another is the detachable magnet on the nozzle. Not all backpack chest straps come with a magnet, so being able to remove the magnet to place into any pack is awesome for keeping your nozzle easily accessible in front of you. And lastly the bite valve has the on/off valve so no more accidentally spilled water if the bite valve gets squeezed!

Great large capacity reservoir

Very functional large capacity hydration pack. The nozzle with ability to open / close was great and easy to use even while running. Multi part hose also makes cleaning easier than traditional hydration packs

Very disappointing

I used this 5 times and then realised that it was leaking. Two holes near plastic holder. Very disappointed and suspect this is a design fault. I have the 1. 5 L one and it has been fine for over a year and still going strong

Great design and features, but unfortunately leaks

The Osprey Hydraulics LT Reservoir is a thoughtfully designed hydration delivery device using lightweight materials and the latest connectors to make filling and filtering easy. The bladder itself is baffled into chambers inside it so that it rests in a flatter profile, taking up less space for gear and avoiding the lump sometimes felt in the middle of one's back between the backpack straps on a less structured pack. The handle provides structure to adequately hold the bladder when filling it without the opening collapsing. These were all features I observed as I opened the packaging and checked it out for the first time. As I was preparing my backpack for a short overnight hike with scouts, I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out the bladder for the first time in the field. After sliding off the locking mechanism for the top seal, I unfolded the folded over portion which was thoughtfully marked where to do so. As I began to open the bag fully, I found that the two pieces (front and back panels of the bladder) were fused together in several spots, preventing it from fully opening. This isn't terribly uncommon with plastics that have been recently manufactured and shipped, so I began to carefully peel them apart. I felt like the materials were stretching and deforming as I did so, so I ran some hot tap water across it to aid in separation. I got it fully opened without damaging it, as far as I could tell. I filled it with water and noted no leaks from the seams and the hose connections. Then I tried to close the seal and lock it back down. This is where I noted my first user issues. I could not figure out how to properly fold it back over to seal it and slide the lock on. It was fidgety and unclear what I should be doing, making me feel a little frustrated and embarrassed at my apparent ineptitude, but it wasn't obvious to me what to do. Luckily, I have a previous model of the bladder with the same mechanism which I was able to consult and immediately saw that what I was trying to do was the opposite of what I was supposed to do, and was very clear once I saw it. But then I realized, I had never filled my previous bladder this way - I had always used the hose connector to fill it from my filter directly - so this method was new to me. In opening it (the older one) from the top for the first time, I found that the two sides were indeed fused completely together unlike the new one I was testing which was only partly fused as I described before. Similar materials were used, so as I tried to separate this one, I felt the same stretching occurring and stopped for fear of ripping the device. I put it aside and returned to my original task of preparing the new one for use. I succeeded in filling the new bladder to 2.5 liters and this time got the seal folded in the correct orientation and slid the locking mechanism on to its locked position, presumably indicating it was now sealed. I dried it off with a dishtowel and laid in on the counter to rest while I retrieved my Osprey backpack to put it into. When I returned minutes later, I found a small, but expanding puddle of water on the counter. After examination, it appeared that the leak was at the upper seal location. This prompted two realizations - first, I may indeed have done this wrong, and second, my original one never leaked like this because the top was never actually opened for filling (the fused sides were preventing it from leaking). I dumped some water out to make it a little easier to handle, and tried again. It still leaked, particularly when I squeezed it a little to imitate the pressure it would experience in the bladder pouch of my backpack. I abandoned it in favor of yet another older Osprey hydration bladder that I knew didn't leak. I was not going to risk a leaky bladder on a trip to a campsite I knew did not have a water source as I would need every drop I was carrying and my gear to remain dry in my pack. Aside from leaking, which tends to disqualify a hydration bladder for use, there were other qualities of the device I will note here. The mouth piece on the hose has a nice locking feature that prevents the delivery port from leaking in transit to the hiking site. It also has a nice low profile magnet that attaches easily to a pack's sternum strap to retain the mouthpiece nearby. The silicone that the mouthpiece is made of has the same negative quality many silicone mouthpieces have - sand and silt readily stick to it, which is unpleasant to get in your mouth if you forget to clean it off after it touches the ground (commonly occurring when setting your pack down for a moment and it topples over). While I like the disconnection device on the hose to allow a filter from a variety of brands to directly connect, I don't personally like the placement of the connection. It is positioned on the hose where it would line up essentially with the top of the bladder. You can see this on the product photo from Osprey. This requires you to remove your pack, and in some cases, open your pack to gain access to this connection. I prefer the connection to be closer to the mouthpiece as I have done on other bladder hoses. This allows me to leave my backpack on my back (or not), remove the mouthpiece with the connector, place it safely in a pocket, then fill the filter squeeze bag, connect the filter to the bag then to the open connector, and squeeze fresh filtered water directly into the bladder without ever taking my pack off or opening it. This is a personal approach, and others may prefer to take their pack off and use the connector as it is positioned, so this is not a negative quality, just a preference of mine. With some effort, I was able to shift the hose sections and connectors around to better position it for my intended use. I want to like this bladder, and I want to use it as it is lightweight and fits beautifully in my Osprey pack. Unfortunately the leak at the upper seal really prevents that and makes my rating for this device low. The most important feature of any hydration bladder is that it doesn't leak, so when it does, it's a fatal flaw. I gave it two stars instead of one since it does have good construction elsewhere and has good features on the hose, plus it is low profile and lightweight. I will continue to try to make the seal better to prevent leaking, and will follow up if I am successful. I received this bladder for free in exchange for my honest review following its use from the REI Trailblazers Program.

Lost potential

I have tried to love this bladder. I have TRIED. I love the magnet that keeps the bite valve strapped close to me. I love the easy fold over top. I love the red grip that makes refilling in the woods easy. That doesn't excuse the flaws this bladder has. 1. Leaking. As other reviewers have noted, the top leaks. No matter what I have tried, it leaks. 2. The lock-unlock mechanism has broken on me not once, not twice, but three times. The plastic lock is not well made, point blank. As a result, I have to keep the valve unlocked in order to avoid cutting my finger on the shard of plastic that once was a lock. Result? More leaking, this time from the bite valve. I want this to work badly, since it is so nicely designed to work with my Osprey pack. but come on. I am on my fourth replacement of the bite valve in two years. That is unacceptable.

Get the Osprey "Bite Valve Cover" too!

I have a previous version from a few years ago. With this new version, the water tastes much better! Some people commented that they wished this bladder had a bite valve cover. Well, you can purchase one separately - which I recommend doing! https://www.rei.com/product/218589/osprey-hydraulics-bite-valve-cover
