One year in, gone on many adventures. My alpinist friends told me a backpack shouldn't just open itself spontaneously so I modified the buckle with click action instead. Indeed, if it's not loaded to brim, especially since you wear all your gear on you, it's never gonna be full. The hook is not as good as other brands. If you reach to unfasten shoes on a multipitch, it may open and the flap will hit you on the head. And good luck tying it back without taking it off your back first... I picked it because of open side pockets and many attachment points, will see how it carries an axe in near future.
This pack has it all! The comfortable hip straps are a nice upgrade. I had the 25L pack first and gave it to my partner when I got this one. My partner and I are LGBTQ+ and avid climbers and often host and organize activities bridging the two communities--not only is this back comfortable, practical, and full of great spaces for all your crag needs--it also helps us show our pride for climbing as confident, out queer and trans folks :)
It’s a great bag overall but the lid doesn’t like to stay closed, the loop pops off the hook extremely easily. I’m disappointed given the price I paid, I need to use a carabiner to help keep the floating lid from opening and flipping around.
I bought an older version of this bag 7 years ago and it is still my most reliable, go to backpack for short trips, hikes, and climbs. I have not been gentle on this bag, it has come everywhere with me and been scraped against all kinds of rocks & trees etc. I have thrown it on wet ground and hiked with it in the rain and everything packed inside stayed dry. today, after 7 years of heavy use, something finally broke- a buckle, no fault of the manufacturing! - and I was able to buy the replacement part easily and fix it myself with no trouble. Cannot recommend this bag enough.
Managed to score one of these bad Larrys this spring and it was worth EVERY penny. This summer I was working as a botanist on fuel reduction projects in the low to mid elevation Sierra Nevada Mountains. AKA I spent my days bushwacking through the thickest old growth manzanita, chamise, deer/buckbrush, etc, that you could ask for. I decided to try this bag as my other one was getting torn to shreds after three or so weeks on the job. Six months later and this sucker looks good. as. new. Seriously, if anything was going to damage a backpack, it was this job, and I am beyond impressed by the performance here. Not only is it durable, it is comfortable, has plenty of extra features, offers tons of support for a non-backpacking specific bag of its size, and more. It has graduated from my summer field work bag to my grad school / climbing bag. Perfect for carrying my rack and has tons of lash points for extra gear or whatever. Can you throw it in a river? No. Can you walk to class with it or work in a drizzle and keep things relatively dry? Hell yeah you can. The ONLY complaints would be that you have the upper brain, lower brain, main bag, and hydration sleeve, and that is all the division... but just organize within those and you are golden. Also it gets a little warm in the hot hot heat as it sits pretty flush on the back but... whatever, climate change, deal with it. Best do it all backpack I have ever purchased.
As a rock climbing guide I haul a lot of gear in a single pitch setting to set up multiple top rope climbs at the same time. This pack is AMAZING for that, the gear organizer sling inside held my double rack perfectly. The codura material is perfect and seems durable so far. I drag my pack through a lot of joshua tree rocks and no holes yet! Also as a smaller women the hipbelt actually fits and the torso length works great to the the weights distribution to my hip rather than all on my shoulder.
First impression remarks: I really like the features and quality. The main thing I notice is tjat at 35L I think it's going to be too small. I'd prefere a 45-50L in this model. I lime the intended versatility and technical aspects of this pack. It could be an "all-mountain", well-rounded climbing pack if it was bigger. The only thing I'm dubious about at this point is the rear haul loop. It has minimal attachment. The front haul loop is heavily reinforced.
great pack but buckle is terrible. So sad, I love the scrambler (had old 30 L, and now have the 35, but the new buckle comes detached all too often...They should ache stayed with the old model buckle for attaching the detachable hood to the pack. I am surprised more reviews do not mention this problem!
This pack came sooner than expected, was larger than expected (this is a great thing for me) and last but not least the quality for the price is phenomenal!! I couldn’t be happier!
Perfect bag, been training for lobuche with it and will be taking this guy all the way. Great functional pockets and have had 0 issues with the gear loops.
