I tested this pack several times over the past 2 weeks. One time fully loaded with 30 lbs of gear. I also tested the pack with only 2L water, puff jacket, and lunch//snacks. I wanted to see how good the tie down straps were incase I wanted to use it for a Day Pack instead of an overnight bag. Here are my reviews. I am 5;8" tall but very short waisted. I used the 16" spine adjustment. I also wear an XL jacket. #1. Hip/Belt pockets felt a bit small. The curve of hip belt made it difficult to fit items in the pockets. The length of the pocket was fine but the bottom material could have been a bit fuller. But was able to fit in snack bag of nuts and protein bar in one pocket. The other pocket glove rain covers and small ID wallet #2. The top zipper pocket is very large, and does have a key holder but they should have put an additional smaller zipper pocket inside that for storing wallet/id. When I did put my small ID wallet in there, it accidentally fell out when I was opening it up so I place that ID wallet in the Hip/Belt pocket #3. Sufficent tie downs on bag and I was able to try strapping down all the straps to see just small the pack would compress when only carrying small items. This was usefull to know incase a person wanted to use it only as a day pack and not fill it up completely. Worked great. See PICTURES #4. It was lightly raining 50% of the 3 hr hike. The bag did not come with a rain cover which is NOT a big deal since one can be purchased for under $30. The material on the bag seemed to shed the water from the rain for the 1st 2 hrs but I did notice at lunch (hr 2) that the material was starting to absord the moisture. #5. The shoulder straps were much softer than the straps on another brand 28L bag which was a nice change. I never felt pressure on my shoulders however I only had about 8 lbs in the bag. I only wish there was one more attachment on each side of the shoulder straps to tie on a watch, or compass. #6. The weight of the bag when empty was very light at 3.1 lbs. Lighter than the previous version I am assuming this replaces, which is the Trailbreak 60L. My 28L bag weights 2.6 lbs so this 60L bag is pretty light. #7. The color is very appealing. I normally am not a Blue person, rather more a red/orange/purple bag person but I thought the color was really nice. I liked the yellow zipper ties on the bag. Helped to find the zippers and the sleeping bag compartment being a different color was very a good feature. #8. Side Pockets: nice large size for me to very reach back and stuff in a hat, gloves or food. The elastic on it was a bit loose however. It might have been better to either put tighter elastic or some strap to close it up.
Wow - this pack is a great upgrade! Super comfortable and easy to use. Felt great for day hikes, backpacking trips and everything in between. Great use of space and pockets. Loved the instructions on the top flap for first timers or beginners.
Beautiful looking bag. I had high expectations for it and for the most part it delivered. It had great support and it is very spacious. It fits a lot! All the pockets are super helpful and functional. The only reason I gave it 3 stars are the following: 1. I used the bag once for about 20 min going to the camping location and 20 back. The bag ripped out of nowhere. It is a small rip in the front but it is obvious that the bag is not durable. The fabric is not the best quality. My cousin has the older version of this bag and it has last her around 2 years with no rips. It seems that the fabric in that version is more durable. It is a different kind of fabric. I am very disappointed for this :( 2. The straps are very thin and they did not feel too comfortable. I had pain from them stabbing my shoulders and I did not use the full capacity of the bag. I have one suggestion too. A small pocket in the front where the compartment for the water bladder is, would be super functional and helpful for easy access at the airport.
Even though I received the women's REI Co-op Trailmade 60 pack for free in exchange for an honest review...I would easily have put this pack on my shopping list. It is extremely comfortable because of the nicely padded wide hip belt and extensive adjustability. Short and wide (like me), tall and thin, or anything in between would be able to get a good fit with this pack. The pack holds everything on my backpacking gear list and easily accommodates the 450 bear vault. The easy access zippered waist belt pockets make for roomy snack and lip balm storage. Water bottle pockets are at a slight forward angle which makes it easier to hydrate without removing the pack to fiddle with the water bottles. A bladder will also work with this pack. The pack contents can be accessed through the top or bottom...just make sure the bottom is zipped up before you pick up the pack. There is a sewn in divider part way down the bag that can be unfastened to make the bag completely open inside or left fastened to separate your stuff.
I really like this backpack but there were a few small things that bothered me. First of all I could tell immediately that the straps were going to irritate me with rubbing and they did. The second complaint I have, and it may be small, but I didn’t love all the paracord sinch string that was way to long for my liking and got in the way of things. I really love how there is a “how to pack your pack” print in the inside of the pack. A few other features that I thought the pack did well on was the loud whistle on the chest clasp is and how big the hip belt pocket is. Over all functionality of the pack is good and I would recommend to somebody who is getting into backpacking.
My initial impression - I love the color combo! The Trailmade 60 is a semi-Lightweight (about 3 lbs) more traditional pack. It has the tent straps on the bottom exterior of the pack that I’ve been missing! The material is in between my traditional Dueter pack (thick and heavy) and my lightweight REI Flash 55 (very thin). It has an adjustable back which makes it a versatile pack that newbies can borrow! The adjustment is the simple and just easy to manipulate- much easier than Dueter or Osprey. Cozy and generous but seemingly lightweight padding. Carries a full load comfortably (I carried 22 lbs including water). Also doesn’t squeak like the Flash. Large “water bottle” pouches on both sides. I do prefer a mesh front exterior pouch because this material doesn’t stretch much limiting the capacity. I really enjoyed this pack I think it might be the “best of both worlds!”
I loved the pack, until it ripped! I used it 4 months before there were holes in the bottom of the pack.
Took this backpack on a one-month trip across the British Isles. Went thru many airport/ airplane check-ins and still as good as new (minus the expected for smudges). Excellent back support. Took off one point because the side water compartments are very loose.
Very cheaply made. The shoulder strap broke on initial fitting due to poor sewing. I do not recommend.
This backpack enabled me to go on an extended trip to europe in more comfort than I ever imagined. The extended size and weight balance of the pack was phenomenal. I would have never been able to go on this trip without this backpack as others were so painful and unbalanced for larger sizing
