Temperature ratings are intended as a guideline to help you compare products, rather than a guarantee of warmth, since many different factors contribute to your comfort while you sleep. Backpacking bags are typically rated for temperature according to an independent testing protocol—currently International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 23537, though some older items followed European Norm (EN) 13537. Testing is based on a person wearing one base layer and a pair of socks, sleeping on an insulated surface with a minimum R-value of 5.38.

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

Warm and comfortable. Zippers need some work.

Great winter bag. Used this bag when it was low 27°, winds 15, on top of a 4.2 pad. Worked great and I was very toasty in base layers only. I'm 6'5" tall and able to fit inside. Not much room to move around and zippers seem to get caught. I had a hard time unzipping bag. Zipping up is fine.

Decent bag, 35f comfort. No mesh bag.

Decent bag, did the job at 35f with a 4.0 pad underneath. I felt nickel and dimed on the purchase though as stamped inside the bag it says, "store in the mesh bag". Well, it doesn't COME with a mesh bag, and REI said they couldn't help us (I thought it came with one, like our other 'lesser' branded bags). Contacted Big Agnes and sure enough, it doesn't COME with one, only a stuff sack that you can't fit the dang bag in. I think for the name/reputation, this is silly and annoying, which for a couple bucks, it should just have the mesh bag with the purchase. Now I have a bag that I can't stuff anywhere, and trust me, the mesh bag that I'll be buying will NOT advertise Big Agnes for free. One star removed for my inconvenience and annoyance.

Nice hardy inexpensive fiber fill bag

Fiber fill bag that compresses reasonably well. For my 6’ son. Got the long, 20 degree version. Decent no snag zipper. Has kept him warm at 35 degrees. Not compressible like down but reasonably good for a backpack if you aren’t an ultralight. Might get one for myself for those ultra wet conditions where you end up real dirty. It washed up well.

Properly rated!

Surprised by how warm this bag could be below freezing. Tested it out on weekend trip with temperatures in the early morning reaching 25F and was warm enough to open up a bit of the mummy bag for most of the night. A bit difficult to pack down, though.

Comfortable, but not so warm. Needs better zipper.

Not a bad sleeping bag at all, but not excellent. I just used it for a backpacking trip where temps were in the low 20s (F), and windy. I was quite cold in the bag. I am very lean at 6’2” and just 150lbs, so I may get colder more easily than the average person, but I had to wear my base layer, fleece quarter zip, and a puffer to get warm in addition to using an insulated sleeping pad. I think it would be better optimized in the 35-40 degree range. Additionally, the zipper got caught almost every time I zipped/unzipped the bag. The bag is pretty comfortable and stuffs down pretty small. Easy to pack up.

Warm, Compact, tight fit.

This sleeping bag was warm and packs compact and light. However I am 6'4" 195 lbs and I found it a bit tight to squeeze into. It is a "Long" sleeping bag for someone up to 6'6". Maybe it's normal for this style of sleeping bag to be tight but I personally would have preferred a bit more room to stretch my arms and legs out. It was very warm thought so that was good.

Comfortable and Warm

Was on the way to go camping at Juniper Springs in Florida and needed a sleeping bag for the trip. I came into the store knowing nothing other than I needed whatever I got to fit in my ENO DoubleNest hammock. A very helpful employee recommended this bag over a matching ENO sleeping bag or underquilt/overquilt. I took his advice and was happy I did. It was very light, very comfortable, and very warm. Temperatures were dropping to the low 40s/high 30s the two nights we were there and while some of my buddies were cold in their tents with blankets, I was very warm on my hammock in my sleeping bag, regardless of being exposed to the elements and cold air. My feet were slightly less toasty than the rest of my body but some thick socks would remedy that. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and thought this sleeping bag performed perfectly in the given conditions.

Warm and comfortable. The pack size is a little larger than I would like it to be, but because the sleeping bag is so compressible I was able to fit it into a smaller pack that I have for a different bag. Used this most recently at around 30F and plan to use it in January at 20F. First Big Agnes product that I've owned and I love it!

Absolutely Wonderful!

Given that this is my first down sleeping bag, I was pleasantly surprised. On my most recent trip, I used this bag in 30(F) degree nights and didn’t have a problem. I felt warm and cozy every single night. This has become my go to bag and when it’s time to get a new one, I might just get another. Only issues I found with this bag was the zipper and the stuff sack size. Not sure if it was designed this way or if it’s a manufacturer defect, but the zipper stops about 6 inches from the end of the zippers track. It’s still very much usable. It just bothers my OCD a little. As for the size of it in the stuff sack, it’s kinda tall. I kinda wish it was a little more compact. For the price you pay, I’m not completely upset about the compact size. I understand that not everything can be UL and compact into the size of a Nalgene bottle. It’s a great product overall, and I wanna thank the Associate Christopher from the REI in Marlton NJ for helping my friend and I out.
