Loving my bike
I really enjoy this bike! I live in a dense urban city with lots of traffic and wanted a bike that I could use for commuting, grabbing groceries, meeting friends around town, etc. This is my first bike since childhood and I was quite nervous about how it would ride. The pedal assist is so smooth. I feel like I can make it up steep hills that would normally exhaust me while still getting a workout. The pink color is a head turner so be prepared for that. Battery life seems good, although I don't know what to expect since this is my first electric bike. I'm 5'6" and got the M because I wanted to sit more upright during my ride - definitely not too big for me, was also able to work with REI staff to adjust the height of the seat. I called ahead and asked if they could plug it in at the store to get a bit of charge, they accommodated my request and I was able to ride it home - really great service. Overall I'm thrilled with my purchase!
Perfect for what I need!
I just bought this bike and it is my first e-bike. I was very nervous to get an e-bike as I am not a skilled rider and don't need the speed, but love to cruise the beach or find a fun trial. The issue I had was that I would get tired and need to turn back more quickly than my friends, so my rides were shorter and far more strenuous. This has eliminated the struggle with the pedal assist. I get help with pedaling so I can go longer/farther but am still getting the exercise of pedaling. Love this bike and am enjoying my rides. Plus, it's so cute!! The only negative so far is that I cannot find a place to attach my water bottle, so the kind folks at REI are ordering me an adapter. Electra does have a "cup holder" that attaches to the handle bar, but my phone holder is in that spot.
Perfect e-bike for me
I bought this bike three days ago and I've been really impressed with it so far. For context to understand this review, I am a woman, 5'9", 310lbs, and 45 years old. I commute to work by bike everyday and have gone without a car for years. It's important to me that riding an e-bike still feels like a regular bike but I get some help on hills so it's an enjoyable commute. I also like to sit upright on a bike and want one that looks as much like a non ebike as possible. I've test-ridden about 10 different bikes and this one was my favorite. Things I love 1. The classic look. It's just a cute urban/cruiser bike. I added some lights and baskets and it's just as adorable as my old Public bike. 2. The weight. While it's heavier than a non-ebike, it's still possible to carry up and down stairs as well as ride it pretty easily without the power on. It's a smooth ride. 3. The level of e-assist. I like to feel like I am getting a little workout and it's great. It doesn't have the same overpushing feel that I got from the Townie Go or most other ebikes. The only one that felt similar was the twice as expensive Gazelle Arroyo C7/C8. And those weren't half as cute. 4. The included lights and fenders. I love that this bike has lights that are connected to the electric system and are super easy to turn on. The fenders are color matched to the frame and just add to the cuteness factor. Changes I'm making 1. The bike seat is on the small side for someone of my size. I switched it out for a broader, more comfortable seat from Electra. 2. The handlebars are a bit low and wide for me. I will be switching those out with a straight stem and Townie-like handlebars. 3. I wish a back or front rack were included. I switched the back Racktime rack I had from my Public bike to this one and it's good to go. I'll be buying a front basket, but it's too bad that they don't have a setup to attach a basket or rack to the bike frame rather than the handlebars. 4. The kickstand is attached to the back wheel hub. While it seems to work so far, I'm not sure how well it will hold up to the kind of loads I put in it. On my previous bike, I was able to include a giant double-sided kickstand and I don't think it would work on this bike. Altogether, it's been a great ride. I love it. It's simple (no fancy screens for this ebike), pretty, and a smooth ride. Highly recommend.
Great light ebike!
Love this bike! I bought it last spring and I love it! So light for an ebike, very fun to ride around town, and so cute!
Great bike; not so great bike pick-up experience
Bought the bike for my wife so she could handle the hills in our neighborhood when we ride together. The bike is great - not too heavy (compared to other e-bikes). Also very comfortable for her and fits well (she's 5'3"). Power is sufficient to add the right amount of boost for pedal-assist. we'll have to see how the battery life works out on a longer ride. The reason for only 4-stars was due to our experience at the store when we picked up the bike. We were directed back to the bike maintenance area in the back of the store. The bike service-person retrieved the bike, rolled it out to us, handed over the charger and manual and said "here you go, everything you need to know is in the manual", and walked away. I had to request a bike fitting for my wife to make sure it was setup for her, which the person obliged. While I started to roll the bike out of the store I noticed both tires were flat. I took it back to the bike service area and requested they add air to the tires. They quickly obliged, and apologized. We had ordered the bike online on a Saturday morning, and didn't pick it up until Monday afternoon (and had emailed them to inform them of the), so there was plenty of time for them to assemble the bike and check the tires. The fact that I had to ask of a fitting, and then to have the tires inflated on a new bike purchase was kind of a sub-par experience, compared my experiences buying bikes from a real bike shop.
Some danger involved.
I am an experience rider and have ridden many thousands of miles. I give this bike 2 stars because if it isn't used as per manufacturing specifications it can actually be dangerous. When used correctly it is a fine bike, if you don't mind the clunky shifting. So what to look out for. Keep the seat low as in flat foot technology. If you put the seat as high above the peddles as you would on a regular bike you may find yourself stranded up on the seat during a stop or in a sand or gravel situations without any way to protect yourself from falling over on your side. This happened to me twice before I began to wonder what they meant by flat foot technology. Luckily I only got a lot of road rash and no broken bones. Now,I need to warn you. A lot of people, unfortunately bike technicians, do not understand this. Please consider yourselves warned. John
